WHY WAS THE COFFEE TABLE INVENTED?
The coffee tables were first invented in the 18th century. The first-ever coffee
table was made in Britain during the late Victorian era. The design of the
coffee table was inspired by tea tables that were popular in the early 17th
century and were created by J. Stuart Foote president of Imperial Furniture
Company in 1920. These tables are made of different materials some of them
are Glass, Metal, Wood, Marble, etc. after some time these coffee tables were
designed as low tables and there are assumptions that the idea of this table
might have been adapted from the Ottoman Empire based on the tables that
were used in garden areas over there. From the 19th century onwards, the
demand for coffee tables was increased as a result the earlier styles were used
and then due to its popularity the revivalism of these tables took place, so it's
possible to find Louis XVI style coffee tables or Georgian style coffee table but
it's next to impossible to find any evidence of the original first coffee table.
As the demand for lower-level tables increased the experiment with its style
and design took place. And it's the same era when marble was highly used
then the marble top coffee tables were created which made a huge impact.
As result, the beauty of marble and the usage of the coffee table gained a lot of
attention. The marble tables became an important piece of furniture as they
were symbolized wealth and luxury.
These tables are considered trendsetter and their beauty and elegance play an
important part in them. The most popular one is the grey marble coffee table
as it's a unique color and carries a mysterious aura with it as Horror movies
suggest if it's black or grey it has a mystery with it. Jokes apart!! Grey itself is a
unique color and adding it to home decor is like giving it a unique touch.
