Maoists – TMC cadres.
3. 4 YEAR OLD SUMANA MANDI WAS ALSO AN ENEMY
Four year old Sumana Mandi had just learnt to write her name. On
February 17, 2009, she was listening to fairy tales told by her mother
Jharna Mandi. The ‘liberators’ and ‘ushers of change’ came and poured
kerosene on them setting the mother and child on fire. Sumana and
Jharna were burnt alive. Their only crime was that they are the family
members of Loncho Mandi, a CPI(M) worker.
4. He was taught the lesson. So were his students, all 6 - 10 years old.
Karamchand Singh was the headmaster in a primary school at
Simulpal in a heavily forested area of Belpahari in Paschim Medinipur.
A noted chhau-dance performer, he was dragged by the ‘liberators’ from
his chair, shot, and his head was smashed with a stone in front of his
students on February 22, 2008.
5. Ramkrishna Duley, 52,
was a peasant in
Bankura. On August
15, 2009 was returning
home from his field in
the afternoon when two
men cycled up to him on
a dirt road and opened
fire. Duley was killed
500 metres from his
home in Sarenga.
Perhaps his punishment was not enough. Ranjit Duley, on March 5,
2009, Ramkrishna’s brother and the headmaster of local Shibram
Satpathy School was abducted from the school compound by PCPA
activists in front of his students. He was released after five days.

6. Dead bodies of tribal
villagers butchered and
kept in open for 5 days
without allowing disposal
in June 2009. Their
relatives were not allowed
to come near or touch the
bodies. The Maoists and
TMC workers danced and
sang around the bodies.
7. All of them paid the
price of supporting
CPI(M).
8. ‘Winds of Change’?
No condemnation, no disapproval were heard when one after another CPI(M)
office were burnt, ransacked by TMC supporters in Purbo Medinipur.
Thousands fled. As media and the civil society remained mute spectators to
the hooliganism, TMC MP Subhendu Adhikary, the comander of the violence
declared, “We will not allow Red flag in Purbo Medinipur”.
9. • Since January 2009, over 300 CPI(M) supporters were killed.
• Among them were teachers, students, children, women.
• Most of them are tribal, followed by minorities.
• All of them belong to the weaker section.

light vigil for them. No
condemnation. No outcry.
No silent march.
