A rubric is a scoring tool that lists the criteria for evaluating student work. Rubrics are powerful teaching and assessment tools that can improve students and reduce teacher evaluation time. To create a rubric, one looks at models, lists criteria, and articulates gradations of quality. There are two main types of rubrics: holistic rubrics that provide one overall score, and analytic rubrics that provide subscores for different components.
