This presentation explores Igbo creativity and ideology from the pre-colonial era. It discusses key concepts like Chi, Eke, Agwu, and Omumu which were interpreted as creative and procreative energy that brings thoughts and visions to fruition. Omumu in particular originates from the word "Omu" and is associated with fertility, wealth, and abundance. The presentation outlines several principles that were believed to make one more creative, such as following one's Chi or purpose, consistency through discipline, and having a mindset of abundance. It provides examples of historically creative Igbos and concludes by discussing how Igbo ideology could contribute to a future Igbo-Canadian identity that embraces diversity.
