Through Purchase for Progress (P4P), WFP in Burkina Faso is offer-
ing smallholder farmers an additional opportunity to sell their pro-
duce. The agency will buy sorghum, maize and beans—the main food
crops in the country—directly from smallholder farmers’ organisations
to distribute through its food assistance programmes in the country.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Over a five-year period, WFP will progressively increase the number of
targeted farmers’ organisations to a total of eight, benefiting 31,000
farmers. It will purchase food commodities through a combination of
direct and forward contracting, while also offering training and capac-
