Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

1. Седмичен форекс анализ, 26 февруари – 02 март, 2018
S&P 500
25.02.2018. Възходящият тренд при S&P 500 остава в сила. Поне на Monthly и Weekly. Силният
трус, който разлюля фондовите пазари наскоро, остави широкия измерител в най-благоприятна ситуация
спрямо останалите индекси. По-мнимателно вглеждане показва, че бурното поскъпване през последните
месеци остави графиката без извивки и за първи път от миналия септември този инструмент формира
ново, по-високо дъно (седмична графика).
Daily, разбира се, е по-разнообразна. Там ясно се виждат пробивите на средносрочния тренд,
предизвикани от внезапния колапс на Wall street от 02.02. Те все още са в състояние да влияят на
възстановителния процес, наблюдаван през последните две седмици.
Повече яснота и пригледност на ситуацията предлага Н4. Двойното дъно и краткосрочният
низходящ тренд, очертани в този времеви отрязък, са добра база за анализ. На първо място поставям
двете дъна, образувани точно върху тъмносинята тренд линия, видима на седмичната графика. Приемам
това като условие за валидност на започналото възстановяване. На второ място е Линията на шията на
графичната фигура. Нейното ниво съвпада с пробива над краткосрочния низходящ тренд (Н4). Смятам, че
2. това са достатъчно много на брой обстоятелства, които заедно с потвърденото ново седмично дъно са
предпоставка за поскъпване на S&P 500.
3. Седмичен форекс анализ, 19 – 23 февруари, 2018
EUR/USD, GBP/USD
17.02.2018. Двете водещи европейски валути направиха решителни крачки срещу американския
долар в първите 50 дни на 2018-та. Внушителното поскъпване премина през нива, доскоро смятани за
непреодолими съпротиви. EUR/USD се установи над 1.2042, а GBP/USD – над 1.3835 (месечна графика).
EUR/USD преодоля дългосрочен рейндж с размер 1170 пипа и пълната реализация на този пробив следва
да отведе двойката до 1.2800 (месечна графика). Кабелът, от своя страна, се намира в зона, свободна от
технически препятствия чак до 1.5000 – последна съпротива на дългосрочния низходящ тренд (месечна
графика).
По-близката перспектива показва известна нерешителност на биковете. EUR/USD се намира при
200 SMA и двете дългосрочни съпротиви, видими на месечна графика. Вече четири седмици двойката
затваря търговията под тях и това е знак, че зоната 1.2042-1.2092 все още не е тествана като нова
подкрепа (седмична графика). Въпреки че Кабела е в по-благоприятна позиция спрямо USD, отколкото
Euro, той е в аналогична ситуация – под него се намира зоната на подкрепа 1.3656-1.3835, която също не
е тествана плътно. Имайки предвид високата волатилност на GBP/USD, бих добавил и 1.3502 като цел на
една евентуална корекция (седмична графика)…
4. През изтеклата седмица EUR/USD се понижи до диагоналната подкрепа, свързваща последните
дневни дъна (дневна графика) и това бе причина за перспективна дълга позиция, част от която бе
5. затворена близо до върха 1.2537. Това ниво издържа тройна атака и вероятно ще предизвика ново
понижение към зоната 1.2042-1.2092, където може да се очаква следващата бича атака (дневна графика).
GBP/USD също бе купена след като успешно се отблъсна от 1.3835. Кабелът обаче не бе в състояние да
се изкачи над светлосинята линия (дневна графика), свързваща последните дневни върхове и също като
Euro се оттегли на юг за прегрупиране на силите.
Нови покупки при двете двойки ще са резонни след ясни сигнали на дневна графика при 1.2042-92
или над 1.2537 (за EUR/USD). 1.3656-1.3766 е зоната на силна подкрепа за GBP/USD. Следваща
възможност е 1.4144…
6. Седмичен форекс анализ, 12 – 16 февруари, 2018
BTC/USD
10.02.2018. Гигантската корекция на BTC/USD изглежда е към своя край. Тя дойде точно навреме,
за да охлади развихрилата се рекламна кампания, обещаваща безкраен възход на криптовалутата.
Онези, които твърдяха, че след 20 К BTC директно ще атакува 40 К, останаха разочаровани. Заедно с тях
и многобройните инвеститори, подлъгани от обещания за бързи печалби… Вместо това Биткойн показа,
че е един прецизен технически инструмент, който по класически начин осъществи модела Bump and run
reversal (седмична графика), характерен за трендове, които се ускоряват в своето развитие. В момента
цената стои на 8633 – точно върху втората основна диагонална подкрепа, присъща за модела.
Това че Bump and run reversal успява да удържи BTC е знак за евентуално поскъпване. Докъде ще
продължи то е въпрос, в чийто отговор се съдържат множество фундаментални условия. Най-
принципното от тях е дали въобще криптовалутите ще останат желано средство за непроследими
разплащания в световен план. Апетитът за нови печалби ще е другата основна движеща сила.
Седмичната графика произведе внушителен пинбар, стъпил върху най-значимата в досегашната
история на Биткойн седмична диагонална подкрепа… Оптимизъм се забелязва и на дневната графика,
макар че там все още не са налице белези за прекъсване на актуалния низходящ тренд.
Най-перспективна в технически план е Н4. Това, което се вижда на монитора на Foreхwin, е фор-
7. миране на Обърнати глава и рамене. Успешно завършване на дясното рамо би донесло повече сигурност
при заемане на дълга позиция, с отворена цел.
8. Седмичен форекс анализ, 05 – 09 февруари, 2018
AUD/USD, AUD/CAD
04.02.2018. AUD/USD за трети път срещна твърдата като стена съпротива на 200 SMA (месечна
графика) по пътя нагоре към 0.8160… В последните години всеки досег на двойката с пълзящата средна
носи трайни понижения. Сега отново сме в такъв момент – януарската месечна свещ затвори точно под
линията на 200 SMA, а последната седмична свещ е свидетелство, че 0.8160 засега остава мираж.
Нещо повече – събитията от изминалата седмица произведоха мече поглъщане в зоната на
предишния връх 0.8124 (седмична графика). Сблъсъкът на AUD/USD с 0.8124 не накърнява възходящия
тренд, в който двойката се намира от началото на 2017-та, но лично аз не бих заложил на дълги позиции
точно сега.
Предстоящата седмица е изпълнена с важни за AUD събития, сред които се открояват решението
