presentation
GOAL: A properly introduced presentation lays the foundation for
the rest of the course and gives a sense of orientation to those
attending
 Proper introduction of a presentation topic should accomplish
the following:
 Create a sense of relevance and importance to the audience
 Lay out the agenda for the presentation so they know what to
expect
 Give a sense of what the goal and expectation is.

4. Introduction of the Presentation
GOAL: The introduction is designed to grab the attention of the audience
and to set them up to succeed (Keys to Effective Presentations, 2008)
 Begin with an attention grabber:
 An attention grabber is designed to pull the audiences attention in.
 This can be accomplished through a story, joke, or a question.
 The story, joke or question should lead into the introduction of the topic
 Introduction of the Topic
 The introduction of the topic should include:
 The topic title
 The reason for the topic
 Introduction of the Presenter
 Introduce yourself to the audience
 Keep details about you aimed towards you qualifications to teach the presentation

5. The Goal of the Presentation
GOAL: Stating the goal of the presentation gives the audience a sense of
purpose and orients them to what your trying to accomplish (Hug, 2014)
 The Goal of the Presentation:
 The goal of the presentation is essentially stating the outcome of your
training should be.
 Examples may include, increased job performance, increased output or sales,
better management or communication etc…
 By stating the outcome, you make it clear to your audience what you are
trying to accomplish, with their help and participation
 This helps create a sense of orientation to the outline and purpose of the
presentation.

6. The Presentation Process and
Expectation
GOAL: Laying out the presentation process and expectation gives the
audience a deeper sense of purpose, orientation
 Introduction of the process and expectation includes:
 The presentation outline
 Review the outline of the presentation with the audience
 Delivery method
 Power Point, Video, group exercises, tests, etc...
 Expectations for the participants
 These include, participation, sharing experiences etc…
 Expectations may also include rules for your presentation depending on the
audience and circumstances of the presentation

7. Engaging Material
GOAL: Engaging Material should be chosen to keep the audiences
interest, encourage participation, remain relevant to the audiences needs
 Engaging material includes:
 Light power points
 They should not have heavy reading
 Limit them to bullet points
 Videos and other multimedia
 Relevant multimedia are great ways for keeping interest
 Activities
 These get individuals to interact with the material presented
 These can include group discussion, demonstration activities etc…

8. Conclusion
GOAL: An effective conclusion should give the audience a sense of
purpose and responsibility with the information presented.
 The conclusion should include the following:
 A recap of the Goal(s) of the presentation
 Highlights from the Presentation
 The expectation of what individuals should do with the information
given in the presentation
