Old and modern appliances
Hello guys! Let’s continue practicing!
Are you ready? Pay attention to this story.
Mom and son are talking about appliances. They compare the new and the old refrigerator.
 Son: Hi mom! How are you today? Are you feeling better than yesterday?
 Mom: Hello darling. I feel much better, thanks. But I can’t still believe that the new
refrigerator is not working.
 Son: I know, mom. In my opinion old refrigerators are better than modern ones.
 Mom: Of course, darling. Do you remember our last refrigerator? We
had it for more than 10 years.
 Son: Wow! Really mom?
 Mom: Yes, and that refrigerator was huge.
 Son: Oh, you’re right, mom. Nowadays, the new refrigerators are smaller than the
old ones.
 Mom: To tell you the truth, old refrigerators were less practical than the new ones,
but they were very good.
 Son: And they were also cheaper than the new ones. But... Why do you think they
weren’t practical, if they were more spacious?
 Mom: Because they didn’t have automatic defrost system.
 Son: Oh, no!
 Mom: Yeah, that was a big problem. Refrigerators today are more modern than
the old ones, but they lasted many years.
 Son: You are right! I totally agree with you, mom.
