This webquest provides 3 levels of practice and assessment for students on the topics of perimeter and area of geometric shapes. The levels include extra practice, further skill development, and a final project where students design the floor plan for their dream school, calculating the perimeter and area of components. Upon completion, students self-analyze their work. The webquest was modified from another source and aims to make math learning easier through technology integration.

This WebQuest is designed as both summative and formative assessment of students'
performance skill on Perimeter and Area of geometric figures.
In this webquest, we will be practicing how to find the perimeter and area of regular and
irregular figures. And we will use our performance skills of perimeter and area to complete
a project- how to design your dream school.
For last couple of days, we have been learning about the perimeter and the area of different
geometric figures and their real life uses. This webquest is designed for you to get extra
practice with this skill and to have fun. Once you have completed this webquest, you
should feel more confident when finding perimeter and area.

Think of how much you know about perimeter and area. If you think you need more practice, be sure
to start at the practice level. If you think you can skip the practice level, go ahead to the polish
level. Every student must complete the polish and show level.
For level 1 (practice) and level 2 (polish), when you have finished, be sure to call me over to view your
score. Every student must have a score documented. If you forget, you must go back and do it again.

Then, solve the 10 problems about finding the area of perimeter of rectangles. Read the
direction in the beginning- how you will use the ruler to measure a rectangle in each problem.

questions only. You need to break the figure apart to find the total area of the figure. If you

You have finally made it!!!
Here you will put all your knowledge together to complete a project that will display your
mastery skill of perimeter and area.
This project will consist of drawing a floor-plan of your dream school.
You will be completing this project with your partner. You can split up the project-work into
two of you, or work together to submit the final floor plan of your dream school. If you cant
find a partner talk to me.
On the drawing paper draw the outline of your dream school. Think of your own school and
discuss with your partner how you want your dream school to be.
In your floor plan you must include at least one design for;
• A parking lot • Main entrance • Hallway • Administration/main office
• 3 Classrooms • A Playground • A Library • A Gymnasium
• A Music room • A Hall • A Computer lab • A Technology Room
Now find the perimeter and area of each of the above design individually. Chose the unit of
your results( perimeter and area) so that they make sense with a real school design. For
instant, the area of a classroom can not be 200 cm2.
