ABOUT THE TALK: Over the last century the body has emerged as a platform for devices, including internal medical devices and wearable fitness monitors. Within the last decade individuals have begun voluntarily inserting non-medical devices into their bodies. What are people putting in their bodies and why? Are insertables the next thing? ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Kayla J Heffernan is a UX designer at SEEK who is also undertaking her PhD in interaction design at The University of Melbourne exploring a new category of device: insertables – devices that go in, through and underneath the skin.
