Linear alpha olefins refer to a family of unbranched alkenes with double bonds on the first or alpha carbon atom. They are produced through olefin oligomerization and metathesis. Important linear alpha olefins include 1-butene, 1-hexene, and 1-octene, which have various industrial uses such as in producing plastics like linear low-density polyethylene. The global market for linear alpha olefins was worth over $8 billion in 2018 and is expected to grow to over $11 billion by 2026.
