4.12.2 Owens Corning Outlook & News
Within the company’s building and construction market, the composites division specialise in Glass
fibre and sells Glass fibre directly to a relatively small number of shingle manufacturers, including
its own controlled construction business. Within the Reinforcements division, Owens Corning
manufactures, fabricates and sells Glass fibre reinforced materials. Within the Downstream
division, the company manufactures and sells Glass fibre products in the form of fabrics, mat, veil
and other specialized products. The composites division operates out of 33 manufacturing
facilities. Owens Corning also has shares in subsidiary companies involved in the composites
market: Arabian Fibreglass Insulation Company Ltd, which they have a 49% share in, Fiberteq LLC
and Neptco LLC, which they have a 50% share in.
Most recently Owens Corning completed the acquisitions of FibreTEK Insulation West, a North
American residential construction company specialising in fibre insulation. Further to this Owens
Corning sold its composites glass reinforcements facility in Brazil to Chongquing Polycomp
International Company, one of China’s leading Glass fibre producers.

Zoltek recently defended a takeover attempt by Quinpario Partners. This defence clearly shows
that Zoltek prices it’s self highly and has a clear view of where what they want to achieve and how.
