This document outlines a study to assess the role of transperineal ultrasound in evaluating perianal pathologies. The study will involve simple random sampling of patients with perianal pain, discharge or discomfort over an 18-month period. Ultrasound and color doppler imaging findings will be correlated with MRI findings, clinical findings and operative findings. The data collected will help understand the role of transperineal ultrasound as a first-line, feasible, cost-effective investigation for analyzing perianal pathologies. Ethical clearance will be obtained from the institutional committee.

11. • SOURCE OF DATA:All patients with complaint of pain, discharge, and discomfort
in the perianal region, attending OPD/admitted to Father Muller Medical College
Hospital and those coming for follow up.The study will be conducted for a period
of 18 months spanning after obtaining Institutional Ethical Clearance.
• METHOD OF SAMPLING:Simple random sampling.
• CALCULATION OF SAMPLE SIZE:Calculation of sample size
• n= Zα
2 x Specificity(1-Specificity
• e2 x (1- Prevalence)

12. • The study will be conducted over a 18-months period after obtaining approval from the institutional
scientific committee and ethics committee. Patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria will be evaluated
by High resolution ultrasonography, color doppler flow imaging in the same sitting and correlated
with MRI findings, clinical findings, and operative findings.
13. All patients with complaints of pain, discharge, and
discomfort in the perianal region, attending OPD/admitted .
-Patients posted for surgery and those who came for
follow up.
• EXCLUSION CRITERIA:-Patients not giving consent for participating in the
study.
14. : Data collected will be entered in Proforma. Qualitative
Data will be represented by percentages. Sensitivity, Specificity, Positive
Predictive value, Negative PredictiveValue and accuracy will be obtained .
• Data will be compared to MRI,surgical, clinical findings and followups.
The data obtained in the study can be used
to understand the role of transperineal ultrasound in assessing the perianal
pathologies as a first line ,feasible, realtime costeffective investigation In
analysing the perianal pathologies.
15. • Does the study require any investigations or interventions to be
conducted on patients or other humans?
• Yes- Ultrasonography and Color Doppler Imaging.
• Has ethical clearance been obtained from your institution in case of ?
• Will be applying for Ethical clearance from the Institutional Ethics
Committee..
