Violent Video Games Cause Violent Behavior
It widely argued against whether violent video games can trigger violent behavior among those who play them. There 's many cases of the violent
video games being the main factor of the person being violent, however their is plenty of factors that play a role in the case from parental neglect to
drug abuse. In 1983 C. Everett Koop, the U.S. Surgeon General, claimed that video games were a leading cause of family violence. Although video
game advocates argue that majority of the research on the topic is flawed and found no causal relationship with video games and social violence.
Violent video games should be allowed because violent video games allow players to release stress and anger in the game and sales of violent games
increase while juvenile crimes have decreased ; however, opponents feel it is that violent video games causes more aggression, bullying, and fighting;
solution to this issue is the parents need to monitor their children, teach them manners and have them educated in how to treat others.
Violent video games do not contribute to youth violence because it releases stress and anger.Violent video games aid people to lessen stress with the
people having fun playing these video games and helping people not to worry about the daily problems of their life and just enjoy living it. In the
Journal of Adolescent Health did a study on the factors of violent video game use on children and surveyed the kids. In the journal, they asked the

Do violent games cause behavior problems?
Recent advancement in science and technology has brought number of innovation, video games is one of them. Do video games cause behavior
problem or not has remained a debatable topic and people have different thoughts on the issue. Proponents of the notion believe that video games cause
number of behavior related problems, such as aggressive behavior, whereas the opponents reject the notion and propose one reason or the other.
Although some people don't believe that video games cause behavior problems, there are three reasons that indicate the opposite side.

Because, most of the violent games are designed on the reward system to create motivation among players to continuously use it (Mathiak et al.,
2011). Some people believe that violent video games make children more creative (Squire, 2003), which partly could be true, for it involves using of
strategies. But this creativity comes with a cost, i.e. permanent aggressive mind, which can never be feasible for one's life. In a study (Dietz, 1998)
found that violent games make children to confront with their teachers because this is what they observe in the games and their characters. This is
very ceases the respect of teachers and overrides the true relations and respect. Children also fight with their peers in schools or playgrounds because
games usually exhibit violent behavior and fighting and children adopt fighting as their usual norm. Many studies including (Anderson, 2004)
concludes that violent behavior is harmful for family and society, it makes peace of society at stake and respect faces constant danger from the users
of violent video games. Although some people don't believe that video games cause behavior problems, there are three reasons that indicate the opposite

In 2008, a study called Grand Theft Childhood reported that about 60% of middle school boys play violent video games while 40% do not. The
study showed that boys who played violent video games were more violent toward their colleagues compared to children who do not play any violent
video games. Moreover, studies showed that violent video games teach people that violence is an acceptable strategy to solve problems. Thus, people
who play violent video games have lower belief in the use of nonviolent strategies. Violent video games also increase the rate of aggression. In
2009, a study showed that after playing violent video games, people take up to four minutes to calm and from five to ten minutes for the heart rate to

All media types like movies and books may be labeled as violent due to containing violence. Statistics showed that 37% of video games are violent,
this percentage was the highest among all types of media.
On the other hand, regarding supporting playing video games, statistics which was made between 1995 and 2008 showed that the rate of crimes
committed by teenagers decreased by 71.9%. Moreover, the arrest rate for all crimes declined 49.3%.
However, the popularity of violent video games around the world in this period increased by four times. Thus, we can deduce that violent video
games do not affect the crime rate as thought. Furthermore, in 2004, the United States Secret Service made a review about aggression and attacks in
schools. The review showed that only oneeighths of bully student play violent video games. On the other hand, the other students were interested in
other violent types of media such as violent movies and books. Indeed, violent video games provide a good replacement for aggressive sports and
playing. Thus, teenagers can express aggression through violent video games without any physical harm. While playing a violent video game, video

Do violent video games cause behavioral problems? For years this topic has been highly debated amongst parents and the players. Violent video games
do cause behavioral problems because they alter a gamers mind.
Risk factors are a major part of behavioral problems. A risk factor of behavior problems are behaviors that are harmful, disruptive, and impulsive. A
majority of researchers say that it is unlikely that playing violent video games will cause a child with no other risk factors to turn into an extremely
violent person(Lee). This being said, violent video games are a common risk factor among adolescents (Cooper). Personal background, peers,
neighborhoods, and genetics are other common risk factors. Combined, these risk factors can cause violent behavior to occur (Calvert).
Continually being exposed to violent acts will eventually lead to violent behavior. Exposure to violence will cause some form of violence to develop
over time. Unnecessary violence, such as video games, are causing problems that would otherwise not be an issue. For example, in one study, 161 nine
through twelve–year old's and 344 college students were randomly assigned to play either a violent or nonviolent video game throughout a specific
amount of time. The participants played a game against the computer in which they set punishments levels for their opponents. Those who played the
violent games appeared to have harsher punishments than those who played nonviolent games (Cooper).
Children often imitate the actions of characters from games they play and find it difficult to separate reality from fantasy. "Kids are changing the way
they think." Says Dr. Gentile. He explains that long–term exposure to this media can potentially lead to changes in both thinking and behavior.
Generally speaking, when children play these games they really enter into the spirit of things. In many of these games, one must play as a specific
character throughout the game. From beginning to end, the player is required to make decisions as if he/she was actually that character, facing new
challenges and completing quests with every new section of the game. "These games require the player to be an active participant, allowing them to
decide the destiny of their

From a young age some of us begin to play video games. Violent video games can share the bad and the good. Yet, their problems outweigh the
benefits such as being influenced, having nightmares , and becoming addicting. As young people begin to play violent video games they become
influenced. M rated games are exposed with profanity because these games are expected to be played by the ages 17 and up. Younger boys realize
what words are considered inappropriate and feel the need to say it around their friends without knowing the meaning of those harsh words. Moreover,
they are influenced with violence. Shooting games seem to be fun to younger players because their characters could always be revived. They do not
realize that people who are shot cannot be revived. It becomes troublesome for them to understand that pretending to point guns at people offends
strangers and creates negative attention. My 6 year old brother loves pretending to point guns at people because he would see my other brother play
shooting games and think nothing of it. My grandmother doesn't appreciate this kind of behavior because it's no game. Therefore, we had to lecture him

Video Games Cause Violent Behavior Essay
From Math Games for kids to blood and gore video games have a lot of different sides to them. Video games are decided on by the player. Saying that
games cause violent behavior in kids is inaccurate. We as people decide who we are and what we will do with our lives. A digital screen and a
controller can't make us any more violent than we already are. Blaming violence on a simple sixty dollar piece of plastic is unfair. Games are rated
early childhood to Adult only. This means that what we play is up to us and we are in control of what we choose to have around us. This also
means that if you are a parent and you buy a rated M game for your seven years old it is your fault. Video games do not influence violent behavior in
kids because there are multiple positive facts about video games that are proven while most negative data on video games aren't proven and are just
speculation, it reduces stress and the chances of the player bullying others.
First and foremost there are multiple positive things about gaming that are supported and show people that they aren't such a bad thing. Research from
Parents.com says "Video games can help children 's brain development and teaches problem–solving skills." Problem–solving skills are useful all the

time has gone on the video games children have played have become more violent than ever before. Such violent games have changed the ways kids
behave. Video game violence does have a connection to violent behavior.
First off, the things that are shown in the media today make kids believe what they see and play in video games are okay to do in real life. For
example, in games such as Doom and Grand Theft Auto, the game makers allow their players to place their anger and frustrations on the virtual

able plan and execute such a violent crime. Imagine what will happen when the younger generations grow up playing more violent games, it will
become no big deal to do anything like this. The news reported that in 2007, there were thirty–seven school shootings in the U.S. alone (Brodeur).
(Fact) The number of school shootings should be zero. Society has become immune to violence that it does not think that violent video games have
anything to do with the behaviors of those who play them. In April of 2007, a student from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University went on
shooting spree and killed thirty–two people and injured many before he committed suicide. ("Preface to 'What Is the Impact of Violence in Video

Video games and their alleged link to violent tendencies with people who play them and younger children in particular is not a new controversy in the

character facial animations. But it's always good to address the inanities that are made by activists and conservatives who constantly attack and attempt
to boycott developers from releasing a game they have spent years making saying that it's because of political correctness. The argument that games

Scientist found out that kids who play Call Of Duty shows more negative behavior. And kids who play PAC Man show less negative aggression.
The only difference was the violence. And the parents then noticed violent behavior in there kids. Scientist found out the more a game is violent the

"Violent Video Games Cannot Make People Violent."
Why do I think, "Violent Video Games Cannot Make People Violent"? I personally have been playing video games for many years and not once have
I ever harmed anyone. I have never stabbed, shot, or even fought another living thing in my entire life. A man named, "Erik Kain" wrote an article on
www.forbes.com stated that, "Anyone who has actually engaged in real violence–––a fight at school, for instance–––will know just how vastly different
it is from the violence we experience on a screen. Real violence is frightening and overwhelming and takes control of your entire body." This is a
great example, because when engaging in a real fight unlike in video games you won't be as confident, cause if you were to lose that would be an

Why do people blame video games? The media most likely blames video games for the increase of violence because it's like judging a book by its
cover, people in the media are adults who have never even played modern day video games so they do not understand how the video games would
impact themselves. Reporters would just take one quick look at a video game and if they see anything bad they will immediately label it as something

Bloodshed and aggression is everywhere; in magazines, in the shops, on the TV, on websites like YouTube as well as in video games. Yet, why is it
that those video games are assumed to be the biggest media source responsible for the violent outbursts of different individuals? Is this really the case?
Every eight out of ten homes in the United Kingdom own a existing generation games console and video games have become a extraordinary source of
education when helping kids to learn, such websites like educationcity.com or the VTech Learning System that teach kids literacy, numeracy and the
sciences through their games. However, it seems an American politician called Joe Biden deemed that violent video games should be taxed just

If there were no violent video games, would it just be that people turn to other entertainment mediums such as movies and still cause these brutal
outbursts. They are a runaway train heading on a course of utter brutality and destruction. A study was published in the United States showing that
only 12% of people in a school of misbehaved pupils causing or taking part in aggressive behaviour had an interest in violent video games while
37% "exhibited an interest in their own writings, such as poems, essays or journal entries". In addition to this, the idea of using different media
sources as a scapegoat is not new. In the 1950's comic books were blamed for violence and that was verified not to be the case. So it is the same
story just a different media getting blamed. However, a study was done by the Ohio State University recently to see if playing brutal video games
makes you more aggressive and in turn more violent . One of these groups of test subjects would play non–violent games such as S3K Superbike, Dirt
2 and Pure and at the same time another group would be playing the deemed to be violent video games such as Condemned 2, Call of Duty 4 and
The Club. After they had played these games for 20 minuets they were asked to write an ending for a random story. For example, a driver crashed
into the main characters car and they had to decide what happened next. This happened for a few days before they were asked to play, what they

Violent Video Games: Do they cause violent behavior and actions? Ah yes video games are huge icons of culture and identity for the people of the
newest generations but games aren 't usually digital rainbows and love but some revolve around violence in their our ways, so as you would expect
these games deeds don't get away without criticism and opposition to some degree. Are violent video games a major cause of violent and aggressive
behavior in those who play them? Are they contenders in influencing behavior and even shootings from the violence done within these digital fronters?
The issue has been a big debate among concerned people of the world and video game advocates for many years now. Some argue that violent video
games do the opposite of increased aggressive behavior and likelihood to commit crimes in which games can actually help stop such, but is this
always the case? Some critics also blame these games for numerous issues at hand like school shootings, bullying, and violence towards women, but
are they the real causes? There are many studies within this debate for both side of the issue and interesting finds in violent video games. The video
game industry is a huge million dollar industry and violence tends to be in a lot of them however.

Topic: Do video games cause violent behavior in children?
Intro:
Technology is advancing and with that comes advancements in video games. Most games such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Assassins Creed,
etc. focus their attention on violence and killing enemies. More and more techniques are introduced by video game companies to make this certain
entertainment interesting for young children. That brings up the question, "Do video games cause violent behavior in children?" Children that spend a
lot of time on these games will hurt their behavior patterns as they grow up.
Arguments for: Video games can lead to aggression, addiction, and bad behavior. Spending too much time playing video games can provoke teens
to act in a violent manner. Teens can learn to act in an aggressive manner in our society when killing a large number of enemies in certain video
games. Brutal killings in these games tend to train the mind of teens to become violent. "A study found that 66 percent of researchers, 67 percent of
parents and 90 percent of pediatricians agree or strongly agree that violent video games can increase aggressive behavior among children." (Work
Cited #2). Those are pretty high numbers and they're all correct. For example, when kids have an opportunity to shoot someone with a gun, or slash
someone with a blade, they'll do it for the benefit to win the game. Doing this can have a violent affect for them in the real world as well. All the

How Do Video Games Affect Society
In today's society, we have evolved our culture to accept a wide variety of different ideas that are expressed throughout the world. Wars, along with
many other violent scenarios are being generated across the globe as a new marketing giant simply referred today as video games. Since the late 70s,
video games have always preoccupied the time of a bored individual seeking entertainment, and to an extent this was the intended purpose. Today,
however, many dissenters of video games argue that they have become more violent; this I admit is true. They also add that this incline in violence has

These two games set the standard on violence and graphics
As time went on in the computer age, games as well as their systems grew more advanced. These gaming machines were capable of rendering the
polygons faster than ever. Also times in society changed as fast as these machines. War broke out in the
Middle East and gangs were erupting in parts of California, which resulted in more crime.
Television advances, along with many new television programs, kept more people in their home. Gaming companies saw this as a new lucrative way to
market their games. The computer technology industry boomed around the era, resulting in many new types of technology, which was later used to
perfect video game systems. Games were now better looking than before and contained more graphic quality enhancements along with more violence.
Combining elements from the war, like in the Call of Duty series, or like the crimes from gangs, like in Grand Theft Auto series, these games provided
what the masses wanted.
The playing of video games within school students has also dramatically increased throughout the years. During the 1980s, children in general
averaged about 4 hours a week on arcade and home systems (Craig et. al.). In recent figures between adolescent youth, boys play up to 13 hours and
girls play up to 5 hours in 2004 (Craig et. al.). Older students also play these games too, 13.3% of men play at

Violent Video Games Cause And Effect Essay
The true question is can violent video games really have an effect on the way your child or teenager thinks? But is there in actual answer to this
question? Many people, especially parents, want to know how a violent video game may be physically changing the way their child thinks and or
acts on a daily basis. Another question would be, is there a way we, the human race, could change the effects video games may be causing in the
brain? We are here to help try and pin point some facts that have been found through multiple articles. Hopefully knowing more about such affects
from violent video games/ positive video games can make us realize that some games could have a positive and or negative outcome on our brains
and physical actions... Research has shown that violent video games and even violent TV shows have made a child or teen become violent
themselves. But what exactly causes this? According to Alice Park December 2, 201, violent video games may change the brain. Kids have an
increasing violence tendency after playing, they also showed decreased concentration in places such as home and school. She believes that video games
may be affecting the proper functioning of the brain. Though the changes may only be temporary. Researchers found that non–violent video games are
seeming to leave a normal delay on their daily functioning. In conclusion this author seems to have a neutral opinion on ways video games may or may
not affect children and teens. Another idea by

Do Video Games Cause Bad Behavior Essay
One of today's most debated topics is whether violent video games cause bad behavior. This topic has been researched for almost 30 years and there
are still major opinion differences. Many psychologists say violent video games do cause bad behavior, and claim that games such as Manhunt, Grand
Theft Auto, and Modern Warfare, desensitize people toviolence, making it a norm in society. Others disagree, claiming that these games, although they
can be very violent, can help people develop critical thinking skills. (Nonviolent video games are preferred for this though). The truth is, violent video
games do both; studies indicated that some games increase aggressive thought, feelings and behaviors in both the long and short term. But, studies

Violent video games can harm society.
There are many issues when dealing with the two sides of this debate. Those who claim violent video games don't harm society sometimes get their
information from what they believe to be expert advice; many times this advice comes from "experts" hired by media industries. "The media
industries spend so much money on trying to convince the general public that there is nothing to worry about," says Craig Anderson, who was
interviewed on "Violent Video Games and Other Media Violence". "The media industry is very worried about its profits and will do almost anything to
protect them." People should also consider the times a violent video game was just the push some crazy kid needed to kill someone or do something
crazy.

"We cannot and will not ban the creation of violent video games. But, we can prevent the distribution of these disturbing games to children, where their
effects can be negative." (Kohl, Herb). Nowadays most trending entertainments are revolving around electronics technologies such as virtual reality,
video games, and media. As the technology becomes more sophisticated and advanced, most violent video games are becoming more realistic and
make the player feel part of the battle and killing the enemies. It is undeniable video games have their own positive side for adults who play
responsibly, but they have several disadvantages, which can hurt children's behavior, mental development, and school performance.
Violent video games have several negative effects on children's behavior. To begin with, children are just like a blank paper they develop their
behavior and knowledge from the environments they are exposed. Most trending violent video games encourage the player to kill the enemies to move
to the next level, and children who have access to play this violent video games gradually start enjoying the violence and be violent themselves. The

that "violent video games increase aggressive thoughts, angry feelings, and aggressive behaviors and decrease empathic feelings and pro–social
behaviors." As many types of research

Argumentative Essay On Violent Video Games
Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto, and Doom. Many know these games for their violent nature, stemming from their graphic scenes or
gameplay involving shooting or beating up opponents, and these factors have caused these games to stir up quite a bit of controversy. For the last
few decades, people have debated the effects of these games on the people who play them. Many believe those who play the games become more
aggressive as a result of their violent nature, while others argue that playing the games has no effect on one's behavior. Society should realize that
violent video games have, at most, minimal effect on players' behavior. The most extensive argument many have argued toward violent video games
affecting one's behavior can simply be described as that many shooters were fans of violent video games before committing the shootings. A common
example people making this argument raise are the Columbine shooters, who were big fans of the video game Doom. While many believe that Doom's
excessive gore and violence led the two teens to perpetrate the mass shooting, that is not the case. What those who argue against video games fail to
realize that those who commit these crimes had a history of other conditions. After many mass shootings, researchers often discovered in autopsies that
the suspect had a long history of aggression or mental health problems that gaming was not responsible for. Patrick Markey and Christopher J.

The Negative Impacts of Violent Video Games on Adolescents Student's Name Institution Affiliation The Negative Impacts of Violent Video Games on
Adolescents Introduction The future of entertainment is greatly entrenched in technology and video games are an integral part of this. Video gaming
is utilized as a great pastime and leisure activity by many people across the world. The number of people who play video games is particularly high
among adolescents with a recent survey showing that 97% of Americans aged between 12–17 regularly play video games (Wittek et al, 2016).
However, despite the entertainment benefits of video games, overplaying violent video games negatively impacts of teenagers and adolescents.
The purpose of this paper is to explore the negative impacts of excessive violent video gaming on adolescents with the sole aim of informing
classmates on the disastrous effects of overplaying violent video games. The Negative Effects of Overplaying Violent Video Games The first
palpable negative impact of excessively playing violent video games is that it leads to addiction (Wittek et al, 2016). Usually, majority of these
violent video games have been developed to offer rewards to the players as they play. In addition to the rewards, the games also entail numerous
objectives many of which require significant time investments to be attained. The urge to achieve these objectives so that one can obtain the
rewards serves to motivate the players to play the game over and over again leading to gaming addiction. Gaming addiction is detrimental since it
impedes the ability of the adolescent to be productive anywhere else. Many other activities such as school work and talent development may be set
aside so as to create more gaming time leading to dwindling school performances and overall productivity (Wang, Liu, Zhu, Meng, Li, & Zuo, 2016).
Another negative impact of excessive violent gaming on adolescents stems from the fact that violent video games can inspire aggressive and violent
tendencies among players (Milani et al, 2015). Many violent video games involve missions and objectives that are characterized with lots of killings
and violence. Also, these games offer rewards for the

Violent Video Games Cause Violent Behavior

  • 1. Violent Video Games Cause Violent Behavior It widely argued against whether violent video games can trigger violent behavior among those who play them. There 's many cases of the violent video games being the main factor of the person being violent, however their is plenty of factors that play a role in the case from parental neglect to drug abuse. In 1983 C. Everett Koop, the U.S. Surgeon General, claimed that video games were a leading cause of family violence. Although video game advocates argue that majority of the research on the topic is flawed and found no causal relationship with video games and social violence. Violent video games should be allowed because violent video games allow players to release stress and anger in the game and sales of violent games increase while juvenile crimes have decreased ; however, opponents feel it is that violent video games causes more aggression, bullying, and fighting; solution to this issue is the parents need to monitor their children, teach them manners and have them educated in how to treat others. Violent video games do not contribute to youth violence because it releases stress and anger.Violent video games aid people to lessen stress with the people having fun playing these video games and helping people not to worry about the daily problems of their life and just enjoy living it. In the Journal of Adolescent Health did a study on the factors of violent video game use on children and surveyed the kids. In the journal, they asked the children what are the reasons Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Do Video Games Cause Behavior Problems? Do violent games cause behavior problems? Recent advancement in science and technology has brought number of innovation, video games is one of them. Do video games cause behavior problem or not has remained a debatable topic and people have different thoughts on the issue. Proponents of the notion believe that video games cause number of behavior related problems, such as aggressive behavior, whereas the opponents reject the notion and propose one reason or the other. Although some people don't believe that video games cause behavior problems, there are three reasons that indicate the opposite side. Children imitate the actions of the characters they see in the video games. Normally the characters in the video game are designed in such a...show more content... Because, most of the violent games are designed on the reward system to create motivation among players to continuously use it (Mathiak et al., 2011). Some people believe that violent video games make children more creative (Squire, 2003), which partly could be true, for it involves using of strategies. But this creativity comes with a cost, i.e. permanent aggressive mind, which can never be feasible for one's life. In a study (Dietz, 1998) found that violent games make children to confront with their teachers because this is what they observe in the games and their characters. This is very ceases the respect of teachers and overrides the true relations and respect. Children also fight with their peers in schools or playgrounds because games usually exhibit violent behavior and fighting and children adopt fighting as their usual norm. Many studies including (Anderson, 2004) concludes that violent behavior is harmful for family and society, it makes peace of society at stake and respect faces constant danger from the users of violent video games. • 3. Violent Video Games Cause Violence Essay In 2008, a study called Grand Theft Childhood reported that about 60% of middle school boys play violent video games while 40% do not. The study showed that boys who played violent video games were more violent toward their colleagues compared to children who do not play any violent video games. Moreover, studies showed that violent video games teach people that violence is an acceptable strategy to solve problems. Thus, people who play violent video games have lower belief in the use of nonviolent strategies. Violent video games also increase the rate of aggression. In 2009, a study showed that after playing violent video games, people take up to four minutes to calm and from five to ten minutes for the heart rate to return to the baseline. This time is...show more content... All media types like movies and books may be labeled as violent due to containing violence. Statistics showed that 37% of video games are violent, this percentage was the highest among all types of media. On the other hand, regarding supporting playing video games, statistics which was made between 1995 and 2008 showed that the rate of crimes committed by teenagers decreased by 71.9%. Moreover, the arrest rate for all crimes declined 49.3%. However, the popularity of violent video games around the world in this period increased by four times. Thus, we can deduce that violent video games do not affect the crime rate as thought. Furthermore, in 2004, the United States Secret Service made a review about aggression and attacks in schools. The review showed that only oneeighths of bully student play violent video games. On the other hand, the other students were interested in other violent types of media such as violent movies and books. Indeed, violent video games provide a good replacement for aggressive sports and playing. Thus, teenagers can express aggression through violent video games without any physical harm. • 4. Do violent video games cause behavioral problems? For years this topic has been highly debated amongst parents and the players. Violent video games do cause behavioral problems because they alter a gamers mind. Risk factors are a major part of behavioral problems. A risk factor of behavior problems are behaviors that are harmful, disruptive, and impulsive. A majority of researchers say that it is unlikely that playing violent video games will cause a child with no other risk factors to turn into an extremely violent person(Lee). This being said, violent video games are a common risk factor among adolescents (Cooper). Personal background, peers, neighborhoods, and genetics are other common risk factors. Combined, these risk factors can cause violent behavior to occur (Calvert). Continually being exposed to violent acts will eventually lead to violent behavior. Exposure to violence will cause some form of violence to develop over time. Unnecessary violence, such as video games, are causing problems that would otherwise not be an issue. For example, in one study, 161 nine through twelve–year old's and 344 college students were randomly assigned to play either a violent or nonviolent video game throughout a specific amount of time. The participants played a game against the computer in which they set punishments levels for their opponents. Those who played the violent games appeared to have harsher punishments than those who played nonviolent games (Cooper). Children often imitate the actions of characters from games they play and find it difficult to separate reality from fantasy. "Kids are changing the way they think." Says Dr. Gentile. He explains that long–term exposure to this media can potentially lead to changes in both thinking and behavior. Generally speaking, when children play these games they really enter into the spirit of things. In many of these games, one must play as a specific character throughout the game. From beginning to end, the player is required to make decisions as if he/she was actually that character, facing new challenges and completing quests with every new section of the game. "These games require the player to be an active participant, allowing them to decide the destiny of their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Violent Video Games Research Paper From a young age some of us begin to play video games. Violent video games can share the bad and the good. Yet, their problems outweigh the benefits such as being influenced, having nightmares , and becoming addicting. As young people begin to play violent video games they become influenced. M rated games are exposed with profanity because these games are expected to be played by the ages 17 and up. Younger boys realize what words are considered inappropriate and feel the need to say it around their friends without knowing the meaning of those harsh words. Moreover, they are influenced with violence. Shooting games seem to be fun to younger players because their characters could always be revived. They do not realize that people who are shot cannot be revived. It becomes troublesome for them to understand that pretending to point guns at people offends strangers and creates negative attention. My 6 year old brother loves pretending to point guns at people because he would see my other brother play shooting games and think nothing of it. My grandmother doesn't appreciate this kind of behavior because it's no game. Therefore, we had to lecture him that shooting people is not funny, rather a criminal act....show more content... • 6. Video Games Cause Violent Behavior Essay From Math Games for kids to blood and gore video games have a lot of different sides to them. Video games are decided on by the player. Saying that games cause violent behavior in kids is inaccurate. We as people decide who we are and what we will do with our lives. A digital screen and a controller can't make us any more violent than we already are. Blaming violence on a simple sixty dollar piece of plastic is unfair. Games are rated early childhood to Adult only. This means that what we play is up to us and we are in control of what we choose to have around us. This also means that if you are a parent and you buy a rated M game for your seven years old it is your fault. Video games do not influence violent behavior in kids because there are multiple positive facts about video games that are proven while most negative data on video games aren't proven and are just speculation, it reduces stress and the chances of the player bullying others. First and foremost there are multiple positive things about gaming that are supported and show people that they aren't such a bad thing. Research from Parents.com says "Video games can help children 's brain development and teaches problem–solving skills." Problem–solving skills are useful all the way through life. They can help with school and even jobs. Problem–solving is a very important life skill. In addition, Parents.com also says, "...most young kids see video games as a social activity, not an isolating one." Most kids see video Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As time has gone on the video games children have played have become more violent than ever before. Such violent games have changed the ways kids behave. Video game violence does have a connection to violent behavior. First off, the things that are shown in the media today make kids believe what they see and play in video games are okay to do in real life. For example, in games such as Doom and Grand Theft Auto, the game makers allow their players to place their anger and frustrations on the virtual characters that range from innocent bystanders to gang members ("Electronics, the Internet, and Entertainment...show more content... Both boys were avid players of video games such as Doom and Wolfenstein 3D" ("Preface to 'What Is the Impact of Violence in Video Games?"). (Fact) It is unimaginable that two teenage boys were able plan and execute such a violent crime. Imagine what will happen when the younger generations grow up playing more violent games, it will become no big deal to do anything like this. The news reported that in 2007, there were thirty–seven school shootings in the U.S. alone (Brodeur). (Fact) The number of school shootings should be zero. Society has become immune to violence that it does not think that violent video games have anything to do with the behaviors of those who play them. In April of 2007, a student from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University went on shooting spree and killed thirty–two people and injured many before he committed suicide. ("Preface to 'What Is the Impact of Violence in Video Games?'"). (Fact) Seung–Hui Cho was an avid gamer. Thirty–two innocent victims died that April. All those who died happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time while the shooter snapped and went on a kill spree. • 8. Video Games Cause Violent Behavior Video games and their alleged link to violent tendencies with people who play them and younger children in particular is not a new controversy in the gaming industry whatsoever, or is it really one that is currently being talked about. At least not as much as Mass Effect: Andromeda's atrocious character facial animations. But it's always good to address the inanities that are made by activists and conservatives who constantly attack and attempt to boycott developers from releasing a game they have spent years making saying that it's because of political correctness. The argument that games can cause violent behavior is one that does not provide any solid facts that games and behavior are correlated in any way. • 10. aith Matthews 3.23.17 Period 1 "Violent Video Games Cannot Make People Violent." Why do I think, "Violent Video Games Cannot Make People Violent"? I personally have been playing video games for many years and not once have I ever harmed anyone. I have never stabbed, shot, or even fought another living thing in my entire life. A man named, "Erik Kain" wrote an article on www.forbes.com stated that, "Anyone who has actually engaged in real violence–––a fight at school, for instance–––will know just how vastly different it is from the violence we experience on a screen. Real violence is frightening and overwhelming and takes control of your entire body." The media most likely blames video games for the increase of violence because it's like judging a book by its cover, people in the media are adults who have never even played modern day video games so they do not understand how the video games would impact themselves. Reporters would just take one quick look at a video game and if they see anything bad they will immediately label it as something negative that its main purpose is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay on Violent Video Games Cause Violence? Bloodshed and aggression is everywhere; in magazines, in the shops, on the TV, on websites like YouTube as well as in video games. Yet, why is it that those video games are assumed to be the biggest media source responsible for the violent outbursts of different individuals? Is this really the case? Every eight out of ten homes in the United Kingdom own a existing generation games console and video games have become a extraordinary source of education when helping kids to learn, such websites like educationcity.com or the VTech Learning System that teach kids literacy, numeracy and the sciences through their games. However, it seems an American politician called Joe Biden deemed that violent video games should be taxed just because some...show more content... If there were no violent video games, would it just be that people turn to other entertainment mediums such as movies and still cause these brutal outbursts. They are a runaway train heading on a course of utter brutality and destruction. A study was published in the United States showing that only 12% of people in a school of misbehaved pupils causing or taking part in aggressive behaviour had an interest in violent video games while 37% "exhibited an interest in their own writings, such as poems, essays or journal entries". In addition to this, the idea of using different media sources as a scapegoat is not new. In the 1950's comic books were blamed for violence and that was verified not to be the case. So it is the same story just a different media getting blamed. However, a study was done by the Ohio State University recently to see if playing brutal video games makes you more aggressive and in turn more violent . One of these groups of test subjects would play non–violent games such as S3K Superbike, Dirt 2 and Pure and at the same time another group would be playing the deemed to be violent video games such as Condemned 2, Call of Duty 4 and The Club. After they had played these games for 20 minuets they were asked to write an ending for a random story. For example, a driver crashed into the main characters car and they had to decide what happened next. • 12. Violent Video Games: Do they cause violent behavior and actions? Ah yes video games are huge icons of culture and identity for the people of the newest generations but games aren 't usually digital rainbows and love but some revolve around violence in their our ways, so as you would expect these games deeds don't get away without criticism and opposition to some degree. Are violent video games a major cause of violent and aggressive behavior in those who play them? Are they contenders in influencing behavior and even shootings from the violence done within these digital fronters? The issue has been a big debate among concerned people of the world and video game advocates for many years now. Some argue that violent video games do the opposite of increased aggressive behavior and likelihood to commit crimes in which games can actually help stop such, but is this always the case? Some critics also blame these games for numerous issues at hand like school shootings, bullying, and violence towards women, but are they the real causes? There are many studies within this debate for both side of the issue and interesting finds in violent video games. The video game industry is a huge million dollar industry and violence tends to be in a lot of them however. • 13. Do Video Games Cause Violent Behavior 10/9/17 SOC 121 Position Paper Topic: Do video games cause violent behavior in children? Intro: Technology is advancing and with that comes advancements in video games. Most games such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Assassins Creed, etc. focus their attention on violence and killing enemies. More and more techniques are introduced by video game companies to make this certain entertainment interesting for young children. That brings up the question, "Do video games cause violent behavior in children?" Children that spend a lot of time on these games will hurt their behavior patterns as they grow up. Arguments for: Video games can lead to aggression, addiction, and bad behavior. Spending too much time playing video games can provoke teens to act in a violent manner. Teens can learn to act in an aggressive manner in our society when killing a large number of enemies in certain video games. Brutal killings in these games tend to train the mind of teens to become violent. "A study found that 66 percent of researchers, 67 percent of parents and 90 percent of pediatricians agree or strongly agree that violent video games can increase aggressive behavior among children." (Work Cited #2). Those are pretty high numbers and they're all correct. For example, when kids have an opportunity to shoot someone with a gun, or slash someone with a blade, they'll do it for the benefit to win the game. Doing this can have a violent affect for them in the real world as well. All the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Wars, along with many other violent scenarios are being generated across the globe as a new marketing giant simply referred today as video games. Since the late 70s, video games have always preoccupied the time of a bored individual seeking entertainment, and to an extent this was the intended purpose. Today, however, many dissenters of video games argue that they have become more violent; this I admit is true. These gaming machines were capable of rendering the polygons faster than ever. Also times in society changed as fast as these machines. War broke out in the Middle East and gangs were erupting in parts of California, which resulted in more crime. Television advances, along with many new television programs, kept more people in their home. Gaming companies saw this as a new lucrative way to market their games. The computer technology industry boomed around the era, resulting in many new types of technology, which was later used to perfect video game systems. Games were now better looking than before and contained more graphic quality enhancements along with more violence. Combining elements from the war, like in the Call of Duty series, or like the crimes from gangs, like in Grand Theft Auto series, these games provided what the masses wanted. The playing of video games within school students has also dramatically increased throughout the years. During the 1980s, children in general averaged about 4 hours a week on arcade and home systems (Craig et. al.). • 16. Do Video Games Cause Bad Behavior Essay One of today's most debated topics is whether violent video games cause bad behavior. This topic has been researched for almost 30 years and there are still major opinion differences. Many psychologists say violent video games do cause bad behavior, and claim that games such as Manhunt, Grand Theft Auto, and Modern Warfare, desensitize people toviolence, making it a norm in society. Others disagree, claiming that these games, although they can be very violent, can help people develop critical thinking skills. (Nonviolent video games are preferred for this though). The truth is, violent video games do both; studies indicated that some games increase aggressive thought, feelings and behaviors in both the long and short term. But, studies ...show more content... Playing these games will not make them go out and shoot someone, but they use more aggressive language, and images, have less ability to control their anger, and externalize these things in violent ways. Violent video games can harm society. There are many issues when dealing with the two sides of this debate. Those who claim violent video games don't harm society sometimes get their information from what they believe to be expert advice; many times this advice comes from "experts" hired by media industries. "The media industries spend so much money on trying to convince the general public that there is nothing to worry about," says Craig Anderson, who was interviewed on "Violent Video Games and Other Media Violence". "The media industry is very worried about its profits and will do almost anything to protect them." People should also consider the times a violent video game was just the push some crazy kid needed to kill someone or do something crazy. • 18. Argumentative Essay On Violent Video Games Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto, and Doom. Many know these games for their violent nature, stemming from their graphic scenes or gameplay involving shooting or beating up opponents, and these factors have caused these games to stir up quite a bit of controversy. For the last few decades, people have debated the effects of these games on the people who play them. Many believe those who play the games become more aggressive as a result of their violent nature, while others argue that playing the games has no effect on one's behavior. Society should realize that violent video games have, at most, minimal effect on players' behavior. The most extensive argument many have argued toward violent video games affecting one's behavior can simply be described as that many shooters were fans of violent video games before committing the shootings. A common example people making this argument raise are the Columbine shooters, who were big fans of the video game Doom. While many believe that Doom's excessive gore and violence led the two teens to perpetrate the mass shooting, that is not the case. What those who argue against video games fail to realize that those who commit these crimes had a history of other conditions. After many mass shootings, researchers often discovered in autopsies that the suspect had a long history of aggression or mental health problems that gaming was not responsible for. Usually, majority of these violent video games have been developed to offer rewards to the players as they play. In addition to the rewards, the games also entail numerous objectives many of which require significant time investments to be attained. The urge to achieve these objectives so that one can obtain the rewards serves to motivate the players to play the game over and over again leading to gaming addiction. Gaming addiction is detrimental since it impedes the ability of the adolescent to be productive anywhere else. Many other activities such as school work and talent development may be set aside so as to create more gaming time leading to dwindling school performances and overall productivity (Wang, Liu, Zhu, Meng, Li, & Zuo, 2016). Another negative impact of excessive violent gaming on adolescents stems from the fact that violent video games can inspire aggressive and violent tendencies among players (Milani et al, 2015).
