Victoria Falls is located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is 1.7 km wide and 108 metres high, making it an extraordinary natural spectacle. David Livingstone discovered the falls in 1855 and named them after Queen Victoria. Locally, they are called "Mosi-oa-Tunya", meaning "the smoke that thunders". Victoria Falls is one of the greatest tourist attractions on the African continent and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1989 for its natural beauty.
