This document summarizes the formation and work of the Vadodara Traffic Education Trust in Vadodara, India. As traffic density increased but police staffing remained unchanged, Yogesh Patel helped establish the Trust in 2008 through a public-private partnership. The Trust recruits and trains volunteers to regulate traffic at intersections and promote traffic awareness. Over 900 volunteers were trained, CCTV cameras installed, and the initiative has helped control congestion while building trust between citizens and police.
7. Yogesh Patel , is an automobile
engineer. He is 74 years old.
But he still does service free
of cost. He was a key member
in the foundation on VTET
(Vadodara Traffic Education
Trust).
9. Vadodara have a lot of traffic
junctions. But the strength of
the Traffic police department is
very less- about 600 personnel
were required. They only had a
strength of about 200….
10. The only way out was to get into a
PPP(Public –private participation
).Rakhesh Asthaana, the then
Commissioner of police
department, took initiative and invite
NGOs and other orgnasations and
decided to build the Vadodara traffic
bridge.Thus,Vadodara Traffic Education
Trust was formed in October 2008.
11. Mission:
To build a force to regulate traffic
by awareness of traffic rules.
To handle traffic junctions by a
trained force.
To build a strong traffic
engineering in association with the
Vadodara City police and people
of Vadodara
12. Steps Taken:
Under the leadership of Shri B K
Shreemali, the then DCP of south, steps
to recruit and train volunteers was
executed.
900 volunteers responded to the
advertisement. The recruitment process
was so systematic that it is now being
adopted by Gujarat police.250 boys were
trained in 40 days.
13. Special training was given to prevent
bribery and increase motivation.
CCTV cameras were installed to increase
efficiency.
14. EFFECTS AND
ACHIEVEMENTS
The traffic congestion problem
has been controlled.
Now, there is a close
relationship between the people
and the traffic police.

A Great plan that has been
successfully implemented.
Needs to be constantly
upgraded.
