The author and their husband rented a rustic palapa in the remote Mexican village of Yelapa, which can only be accessed by small boat as there are no cars and electricity is optional. Upon arriving, a very friendly stray dog adopted them and became their constant companion, accompanying them on beach trips and tours around town and sleeping outside their room every night. The author jokes that someone should tell Hilton Hotels about this new kind of vacation amenity as they missed their new "vacation dog" companion.

3. Yelapa is so remote you can only get there by tiny, scary little boats (see above). There are no cars, and electricity is optional.

4. The minute we got off our boat, this very friendly guy adopted us. He must have known we like dogs!
