US State Sales Tax Guide.
Sales tax in the United States is a consumption-based tax imposed on the sale of goods
and certain services. It is levied by state governments, and in some cases, by local
jurisdictions, making it a complex and multifaceted system. In this comprehensive guide,

Historical Background:

How Sales Tax Works:

from one state to another. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, state sales
tax rates ranged from 2.9% in Colorado to 7.25% in California. It’s important to note that

In addition to state sales tax, many local jurisdictions, such as cities, counties, and
special districts, have the authority to impose their own sales taxes. Local sales tax
rates vary widely across the country and can significantly impact the overall tax burden
on consumers.
