BAZ-ART IS AN ORGANISATION THAT TRANSFORM SPACES THROUGH
COMMISSIONED URBAN ART.
We achieve our objectives through the creation, education, incorporation and
development of art into all areas of South African life. Our aim is to harness the power
and creativity of art to improve people’s lives in many different ways.
From locally and internationally based artists, designers, teachers, jurists, community
leaders, event organisers and media specialists, Baz-Art provides a safe and qualitative
expertise and backing to its assignments.
Art education has been shown to have various positive academic, cognitive, personal,
social and civil benefits. Art activities can foster a sense of community. They can help to
create a place of safety and security where students can learn from one another as
they engage with themselves and their environment.
Art can also activate and enhance other skills as diverse as reading proficiency, verbal
memory, language and leadership. Art gives children a chance to use their
imagination, which is especially helpful in situations where resources are limited.
It helps children become more flexible as well as to think abstractly, qualities that assist
in problem solving and reasoning. Art also catalyse s personal emotional development
by teaching one to challenge assumptions.
But above all, Art is a bridge across Cultural differences by teaching disciplines,
acceptance, engagement, the value of efforts, of interacting in a social environment, of
tolerance and pride to the children, leveling all social disparities.

About the International Public Art Festival:
INTERNATIONAL // Since 2016, the International Public Art Festival has produced over 100 murals and has
placed Cape Town – 2018’s World Leading Travel Destination [World Travel Awards] – at the forefront of street
art and culture on the African continent. The festival brings together the best mural artists from all over the
world and South Africa, where they have a opportunity to meet, exchange and share their talents.

coffee you buy is an investment in a young mans life.
The money will go directly to Beth Uriel, which is
based where the coffee garden is – that means that
you actually can see and feel the young men you are
supporting. Beth Uriel provide young men from
impoverished communities the chance to pursue
meaningful, independent lives through a supportive
living environment, connections to educational
opportunities, positive social alternatives and training
in life skills.

The pilot project for this partnership will be
launched in Salt River, Cape Town from the 7th to
16th of February, 2020 and will see the creation of
a safe space, where children can learn, sharpen
their gardening and art skills, while also producing
food for their families.
The construction and design of the garden will be
a collaborative effort between local children from
the community as well as local and international
artists who will be participating in the
International Public Art Festival (IPAF). This event
will also be hosted by Baz-Art in Salt River, Cape
Town from the 12th to 16th of February.
Baz-Art´s manager, Alexandre Tilmans' says ‘the
purpose of the project is to encourage and enable
young people to become productive members of
society. Furthermore,the garden will have many
other benefits, including creating a healthier
environment for kids to play and learn, and a safe
space in their community to connect with nature
and be creative.’

Deus Ex Machina’s in Cape Town at The Homestead of Perpetuity. It is a mix of many things and has something for everyone.

beings), as individuals and communities, are
the primary ‘purpose’ for making cities
thriveable. All other aspects (technology,
transport & infra-structure, health, education,
sustain-ability, economic development, etc.)
although playing a major part, are
secondary.
