This document provides an overview of an integrated unit on living beings for a 1st year music department class. It includes objectives, contents, activities, and evaluation for studying two musical pieces: Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev, and Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns. The objectives are to actively listen to and analyze the pieces, recognize musical characteristics, voices and instruments, use appropriate terminology, and appreciate music as a form of expression. Contents cover musical qualities, organology, and instrumental groups. Activities include listening to and watching videos of the pieces, as well as matching instruments to characters. Evaluation criteria include date, audition outline, use of terminology, and attitude during activities.
