This document discusses unemployment and its impact in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It notes that unemployment rose to 20.8% in 2020 according to government records, compared to 9.1% in 2019. Income for gig workers reduced up to 90% and the number of gig workers may increase to 2.5 crores in upcoming years. Over 4 crores MSME sector workers were at risk of unemployment in 2020 with these firms seeing a 20-50% drop in income. The informal sector employs around 80% of workers in India and saw major losses across agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing and services due to lockdowns.
