2. Unrestricted Funds
• These funds are free from any external
restrictions and available for general use.
• Individual contributions given to the Annual
Fund or for Membership are unrestricted
• General operating and unrestricted grants-
although most foundations give to a specific
cause

3. Restricted Funds
• These funds have donor-imposed restrictions that
can be fulfilled in one of two ways – passage of a
defined period of time (time restriction) or by
performing defined activities (purpose
restriction).
• These funds most often come from a grant
received to operate a specific program or project
or individual contributions given with the intent
of supporting a particular program or campaign.

4. Temporarily Restricted
• These funds are restricted by the donor for a
designated purpose or time restriction that
will never expire. The intent is that the
principle balance of the contribution will
remain as an investment forever, and the
nonprofit will utilize the interest and
investment returns, such as with an
endowment.

5. The Balance Sheet...
• ….addresses all three funds
• ….presents a company's financial position at
the end of a specified date. A "snapshot" of
the company's financial position at a point (in
time.

6. The Statement of Activity
• The statement of activities is one of the main
financial statements of a nonprofit or not-for-
profit organization.
• A nonprofit’s statement of activities is issued
instead of the income statement which is
issued by a for-profit business.
• WE only cover UNRESTRICTED FUNDS in the
Statement of Activity

unrestricted funds this year?
