The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) is an intergovernmental organization modeled after the European Union that acts as a forum for South American leaders to interact and promote interregional trade. It was created in 2008 as the successor to the South American Community of Nations established in 2004, with the aim of integrating two existing trade blocs in South America. UNASUR has 12 member countries in South America.
