ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Duluth,
Minnesota, June
10-12, 2015
13. From a theoretical perspective, what sets apart cultural entrepreneurship
from "traditional", or "regular" or "other" entrepreneurship.
What exactly qualifies as cultural entrepreneurship?
What other, related entrepreneurships are out there, such as arts
entrepreneurship, creative entrepreneurship, or social entrepreneurship?
Who is talking about cultural entrepreneurship?
What practitioners, i.e. entrepreneurs, are now beginning to identify as
cultural entrepreneurs, and say so?
Most importantly, how "legitimate" is creative and cultural
entrepreneurship? How much is its economic impact recognized,
measured, and how much is economic policy directed at fostering the
creative and cultural sector.
CULTURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP THEORY
14. From a pedagogical perspective, we were asking: What is being
done to educate future generations of cultural entrepreneurs?
Where do programs for creative and cultural entrepreneurship, or
related fields exist, as graduate programs, majors, minors,
certificates, or community/professional programs?
What does the curriculum include, what courses can students
choose from, and what core of courses seem to emerge as one
that is present in all - or a majority of the institutions?
What unique educational paths exist in specialized programs? For
example, we know of a cultural entrepreneurship BA program in
Finland that specializes in jewelry design.
CULTURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP PEDAGOGY
15. The last component of our conference was dedicated to
entrepreneurial practices - the "doing" of entrepreneurship, and
its impact on the community. We had various speakers and
policy makers present, from non-profit organizations, that
detailed their work in fostering economic growth through the
creative industries. Freelancing, project-based local
competitions, professional short-term training programs, and
product development training were all highlighted.
