This document outlines an introductory course on understanding luau fundamentals. The course will cover the origins and history of the luau, introduce traditional luau cuisine, and include hands-on labs for Hawaiianization, hula dancing, and sampling luau foods. The document provides an agenda that includes discussions of how luaus began as a traditional Hawaiian feast and party usually accompanied by music and hula dancing, and how they became a cultural celebration after religious taboos were abolished in 1819. Hands-on sections will cover writing Hawaiian names, learning basic hula dance moves, and tasting popular luau dishes like kalua pork and haupia.
Do you know the difference between a tweet, a twosh and a twiiter? Engaging alumni used to be as easy as following a standard plan of print materials, a web site, some email blasts and other collateral. But as user-created content becomes the norm, we can’t leave social networking out of our marketing mix. Don’t let it scare you! We’ll talk about which tools to use (or if we should use them at all!) and how to educate leadership about how best to use what’s out there to connect with our alumni and create a better virtual space where they can engage, interact and support the institution.

You design every day on projects for other people. Applying rigor and creativity, form and strategy. But what if you focused these abilities to achieve goals of your own? What if you took on 2013 as your own design experiment?
Making a year is the ultimate design project, and now is the time to start. Holidays are a time to reflect. The New Year is a new beginning. A fresh start creates a space for action. Intentional action. It's what we do for clients isn't it? Step 1: Define and discover. Step 2: Design.
What do you want to accomplish next year as a designer? In this talk I'll share some ideas and strategies you can use to tackle the project of designing 12 months. What will spark monthly action? What are the necessary catalysts — ideas, people, information — to reach your outcomes?
Along the way I'll share how swimming, biking, and running 140.6 miles at one time is a catalyst for planning. How peace of mind is a catalyst for new ideas. And ultimately, how you can be a catalyst for understanding, for collaboration, and for social good.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message

Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Step 2: Discover your alternate identity
Step 3: Write your Hawaiian name on your nametag

7. Luau Origins
A traditional Hawaiian party or feast
usually accompanied by entertainment
such as traditional Hawaiian music and
hula
In 1819, King Kamehameha II abolished
all religious laws, including those that
required Hawaiian men and woman to
eat their meals separately
As a symbolic reinforcement of this act,
King K sets up a feast with all the
women, ending the Hawaiian religious
taboos
This “Luau” becomes a cultural
celebration of this social paradigm shift

13. Essential Hula Dance Steps
Step 1: 'Ami (Hula hip swivel)
Right - rotate hips counter-clockwise, one
rotation for each count
Left - rotate hips clockwise
Bent knees make the 'Ami easier
Step 2: Mele (Singing Hand Movement)
Hand gracefully gesturing at mouth for song
Step 3: Palama (Swaying Palms Hand
Movement)
Left arm becomes the land
Right arm and fingers sway showing a
waving palm

If you’re like me, the modern interpretation of word Luau probably brings to mindimages of dancing grass skirts…
…fire jugglers…
…vast buffets Hawaiianfood…
…And any number of other vaguely tropicaliconsWhile some of those things are related to the luau, the dance and the food are really at the center of the affair
At this point, I would like to ask our teaching assistant, Holly, to come up and help walk us through 3 essential hula dance steps
