• BALLAD- it is a light, simple narrative poem of folk origin,
composed of short stanzas and adapted for singing. It is a
simple song, especially one sentimental or romantic
character, having 2 or more stanzas all sang to the same
melody.
• RHYTHM AND BLUES-also known as r&b or rnb. It is a black
popular music of the 1950’s. It is a combination of different
popular music genres like jazz, gospel and blues. Also in
quadruple meter with danceable speed.

• ROCK AND ROLL- a popular style evolved in the 1950’s from a
combination of rnb and country-western music characteristics.
Famous performer of rock n roll were Ray Charles and James Brown.
• Elvis Presley- “KING OF ROCK AND ROLL”. Presley’s hit songs were
“Love me Tender,” “Hound Dog,” and “Heartbreak Hotel.”
• The Beatles- this British rock group was formed in 1960 in Liverpool,
England . The group consisted of Paul McCartney, John Lennon,
George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. “Love me do, I want to hold your
hand, Twist and shout, hey jude, yesterday, let it be and Yellow
Submarine were some of their best-selling songs.

• DISCO- a style of pop music in the 1970’s and is
distinguished form of dance music. Its name is derived
from French DISCOTHEQUE, which means a type of
dance-oriented nightclub that first appeared in 1960’s.
• RAP- a spoken word delivered quickly in rhymed
verses. It is a rock music that evolved in the 1970’s. it
is accompanied by hip-hop music.

• ALTERNATIVE- started in the late 1980’s and early
1990’s. It is a do-it-yourself type of music of different
musical bands. Its definition refers to its distinction
from typical rock music, which is expressed by
distorting the guitar sound in a different and defiant
