Uber significantly increases prices during peak times, such as holidays, charging up to 4 times their normal rates. This "surge pricing" allows them to meet demand even on busy nights, though some customers have paid over $500 for short trips. While Uber claims drivers are contractors, this allows the company to avoid paying fair wages. There are also privacy concerns, as Uber installs "dummy" phone numbers but sometimes fails to protect customer information from drivers.
