Tui are a unique honeyeater bird endemic to New Zealand. They feed on nectar from native flowers and some insects. Tui play an important role in pollinating native trees. They can be found throughout New Zealand's North and South Islands as well as the Chatham Islands. Tui live in areas with a mix of ground cover, shrubs and trees and will aggressively defend food sources from other birds. Their calls include bell-like notes and various other sounds they mimic from other birds.
