Integrating Social Media and How To Use It Jared Roy
Social media is an important conversation that businesses should engage in to avoid being ignored. It provides opportunities for listening to customers and influencers to improve marketing through engagement rather than interruptions. While tools like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and blogs are growing in popularity among many age groups, an effective social media strategy requires setting objectives, identifying influencers and channels, listening to conversations, engaging with audiences, and measuring results.
"CCS in the UNFCCC," a presentation delivered by Barry Jones, General Manager for Policy and Membership at the Global CCS Institute, at a COP 17 side event on December 2. The presentation covers the background of CCS within the UNFCCC and looks at possible ways forward as the Kyoto Protocol comes to an end in parallel to the discussion of including CCS under the Clean Development Mechanism.
This document discusses consumerism in three contexts:
1) It defines consumerism as the theory that increasing consumption is economically desirable and encourages ever-greater acquisition of goods and services.
2) It explains how consumerism is used in Brave New World to control the population by conditioning them to replace products as soon as they get old and consume as much as possible.
3) It argues that today's society is influenced by massive corporations that rely on consumerism to keep people distracted buying pointless things and control the population in a similar way, though not directly driven by government like in the book.
The document summarizes research results about SweeTarts candy and overachieving consumers. It introduces the SweeTarts Squad, who each represent a different SweeTarts product and type of overachiever. The positioning statement positions SweeTarts as a sidekick that cheers on overachievers aged 13 to 21. Two activations include a Buzzfeed quiz and using Twitter and Instagram hashtags to share experiences overachieving with SweeTarts. Key performance indicators to measure include engagement with the quiz and social media, along with candy sales and followers.
A Beginners Guide to Getting Published (for HSS Authors)Lucy Montgomery
This presentation provides a basic introduction to the sometimes daunting world of scholarly publishing. It explores why publishing is considered so important for people hoping to develop and academic career; how the publishing landscape is changing; the best places to publish; and practical strategies for publishing both books and journal articles. Important developments in Open Access policy such as the Australian Research Council’s 2013 Open Access Mandate, which requires all ARC funded research outputs to be made available in ‘Open Access’, are also touched upon.
The presentation will be especially interesting for Doctoral Candidates and Early Career Researchers, as well as anyone interested in understanding how the scholarly publishing landscape is changing and what they should do about it.

This document discusses different language teaching methodologies including the direct method, grammar-translation method, audio-lingual method, structural approach, suggestopedia, total physical response, communicative language teaching, the silent way, community language learning, immersion, the natural approach, the lexical syllabus, task-based language learning, and self-production. It provides brief descriptions of each methodology and encourages discussion of effective strategies for teaching foreign languages to children.
The document discusses role-based accessibility in government projects. It argues that accessibility is everyone's responsibility, not just that of an accessibility consultant. Following the WCAG 2.0 POUR principles of accessibility, each role on a project, from managers to developers to writers, shares responsibilities to ensure projects are perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. The document provides examples of accessibility tasks for each role and advocates for collaboration across teams to integrate accessibility throughout the entire design and development process.
El documento habla sobre los instrumentos de deuda. Explica que son títulos que representan un compromiso del emisor de devolver el capital más intereses en una fecha de vencimiento. In October 2013, Donald Samulack, President, U.S. operations at Editage, attended the SciELO 15 Years Conference held to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the SciELO Network. The primary focus of the conference was on open access publishing and the challenges currently faced by journals. The panel of speakers at the conference included Donald Samulack.
Donald presented an interesting session titled Can an Author’s Editor Help Expedite Peer Review of the Manuscript They Edit? as part of the panel on “Experiences, Solutions, Products, and Services of Scientific Communication.” Editage was one of the sponsors of the event, which was held from October 22-25 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The conference attracted a daily visitors as 400 academicians, including editors, publishers, researchers, and authors.
The document discusses the future of web development with single page applications (SPAs) and web components. It covers current SPA frameworks like AngularJS, EmberJS, and React. It also discusses new technologies like ES6, fetch API, and decorators. Finally, it outlines a workshop to build an app with Aurelia using Flickr data and Polymer components.
Supporting CCS deployment – an update from the UK Department of Energy and Cl...Global CCS Institute
2015 has been hailed as a ‘watershed year’ for carbon capture and storage (CCS). Large-scale CCS power projects are now a reality and there’s a growing international recognition of the critical role the technology has to play in climate change mitigation.
The UK has been an important and influential advocate for the technology on the world stage. With two large-scale CCS projects currently working towards a final investment decision, a small pipeline of future projects including a possible industrial CCS hub on the horizon, the UK remains one of the most active countries for CCS development in Europe.
At the heart of the UK CCS story, is a world-leading policy and regulatory approach to establish a holistic framework for CCS commercialisation, moving beyond large-scale demonstration of the technology.
To discuss the UK’s approach to CCS policy and regulation and to give an update on the UK Commercialisation Programme and Research and Innovation results, we were delighted to have Amy Clemitshaw, Deputy Director of the Office of Carbon Capture and Storage, within the UK Government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change, to present the UK CCS story.
Future carbon capture R&D efforts need to focus on cost reductions in three main areas: materials, processes and equipment. In this webinar Ron Munson, the Institute’s Principal Manager – Capture, gave an overview of the current directions in carbon capture R&D, including development of higher performance solvents, sorbents and membranes; process improvements and intensification; equipment development; and novel equipment designs.
Slides for my presentation at the 1st Altmetrics Conference, 1AM:London, 26 september 2014. The slides provide an overview of the status of article-level metrics at Springer, how we use them, and an outlook of where it may go.
