subjective knowledge but also life style practices and health seeking behaviors.

4. Facial anomalies are a group of deformities involving the
growth of the head and facial bones. These anomalies
are congenital (present at birth) . Eg; Cleft Lip, Cleft
Palate and TMJ Ankylosis.
Trinity Care Foundation provides free surgeries and
treatments to such underprivileged children. We work
in partnership with National Health Mission and
Government of Karnataka.

6. Benefits of School Health Program
The school activities expose the child to other children, and to public places, such as streets and buses. This
makes the child vulnerable to a set of medical issues, ranging from infectious diseases, food poisoning, psycho-
social issues and addictive behaviors. Based on several studies done on school children found that most of the
children were suffering from one or more morbid conditions like, Anemia, Dental caries, Vitamin A deficiency,
refractive error, Poor hygiene, Worm infestation, Tonsillitis, Vitamin B-complex deficiency etc.
Health is a key factor in school entry, as well as continued participation and attainment in school. Most of the
defects and diseases that are seen among the school children are preventable and the health of the child can be
preserved and improved, provided that the defect or disease is detected and treated early. Research indicates
that nutritional deficiencies and poor health in primary school age children are among the causes of low school
enrolment, high absenteeism, early dropout and poor classroom performance.
The School health program is the only public sector program specifically focused on school age children. Its main
focus is to address the health needs of children both physical and mental, and in addition it provides for
nutrition interventions and counseling. It responds to an increased need, increases the efficacy of other
investments in child development, ensures good current and future health, better educational outcomes and
improves social equity and all the services are provided for in a cost effective manner.

18. Adolescent School Health Education
Programme for girl students
The WHO defines “Adolescence” as the time period between 10 and 19 years of life characterized by critical
physical and psychological changes leading to adulthood. This age group requires adequate nutrition, education,
counselling and guidance to ensure their development into healthy adults. India has a population of over 1 billion
adolescents form 22% (225 million) of the population, of which 47% are females.
The School health education programme will provide age appropriate, uniform skilled advice on nutrition,
prevention of anemia, hygiene (menstrual), problems of growing years, career counseling to school girls and for
older girl’s sessions on avoiding RTI/STIs.
Objective of S​.​H​.​E programme will be to Impart knowledge to adolescent girls in low- and middle-income age
groups (1) about menstruation and how prepared are they for reaching menarche, (2) who are their sources of
information regarding menstruation, (3) how well do the adults around them respond to their information needs,
(4) What negative health and social effects do adolescents experience as a result of menstruation, and (5) how do
adolescents respond when they experience these negative effects and what practices do they develop as a result?

21. The Transformation :
Cleft lip and Cleft palate, especially in children go way
beyond the realm of medical need. Apart from causing
difficulties in breathing, eating and speaking, the
greatest discomfort these children face is often cruel
ridicule for their appearance and at times ostracization
from society.
In a country like India where a large portion of the rural
population still believes in superstitions, people consider
children with cleft lip deformity to be bad luck and some
even consider them cursed.
The stigma attached to their deformity causes affected
children, who are otherwise completely healthy, to lead
incomplete, fractured lives. They are often forbidden
from attending school, playing with other children, being
seen at social gatherings and some are even barred from
leaving their homes.

24. Providing safe drinking water to students in
Government schools
Providing safe drinking water to students and villagers by installing RO Water plants in Govt. schools,
out of 30 districts in Karnataka, 29 districts groundwater is unfit for drinking purposes. Information
contained in reports prepared by the Central Ground Water Board and Ground Water
Directorate, Karnataka pertaining to chemical concentration in groundwater in the state, the reports
indicate that concentration of harmful chemicals such as nitrate, fluoride, arsenic is beyond
permissible limits in 22 of Karnataka's 30 districts, including Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural.
Concentration of nitrate, fluoride and iron was found to be above permissible limits in many as 16
districts was reported in TOI. Reverse Osmosis (RO) This is basically filtration at molecular level.
Mechanical pressure is applied to an impure solution to force pure water through a semi-permeable
membrane, it is reverse because under normal osmosis, pure water moves into the contaminated
water without any pressure. RO is theoretically the most thorough method of large scale water
purification available, although perfect semi-permeable membranes are difficult to create. RO is
required if the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) exceeds the upper limit, according to the India Water
portal, RO is also suggested if you live close to an industrial area and the water may possibly be
contaminated with sewage, pesticides, heavy metals, industrial effluents.

Foundation initiatives for reducing health disparities.
Outreach programs are important tools for bringing health education and screening
services directly to community members and serve to contribute to reducing health
disparities. They assist communities and hospitals to reach mutually beneficial goals that
would otherwise not be achievable for promoting accessible and equitable care. The
incidence of medical conditions and resultant fatalities in India is higher than in the West,
primarily due to the non-availability of pervasive affordable quality advanced healthcare
solutions for the poorer segments of the society.
Well aware of this lacuna, Trinity Care Foundation conducts multiple Community Outreach
Programs as its commitment and obligation towards the society. The aim of these
programs is to redress the imbalance by providing quality advanced healthcare to the
deprived and the underprivileged at their doorsteps.
