Background
This PowerPoint was used for revision of vocabulary and spelling practice. The words had been introduced to the class in a previous session. Students were asked to learn the words and spellings for the next session.
Ideas for displaying PowerPoint
Presentation must be displayed full screen or type-in boxes will not be active.
Screens 2-16 Display full screen (a picture should be displayed). Ask students what the picture is. Practise saying the word in a sentence. Then, working in small groups of 2-3 with an individual whiteboard, can they write the word or sentence? (Each group can choose a scribe but all must contribute). Hold up whiteboard for tutor to check spellings and vocabulary.
Alternatively, if a cordless keyboard is available this can be passed round and a volunteer can type spelling in the box (or ask individual students to write the spellings on a piece of paper) then click to reveal correct spelling.
Screen 17 more unusual forms of transport that were not mentioned in the previous session! Ask students if they know the words / spellings.
Screen 18 (extension work – sorting types of transport. Display fill in screen directly onto whiteboard (rather than a screen). Ask learners to close all books / notes and to come up and quickly write as many types of transport as they can remember under the correct column heading.
