A news story written about a University of Kansas Theatre department play, announcing the upcoming shows. This was an assignment in my Media Writing class at the University.

The University of Kansas Theatre Department Presents Tovarich
From Oct. 17 to the 19, and 24 to the 26, the University of Kansas theatre department will be putting on the play “Tovarich.” The performance will take place at the Crafton-Preyer Theatre.
“Tovarich,” which means Comrade in Russian, was a play originally written in the 1930s and was adapted into a film in 1938.
When interviewed about Tovarich, Stage Manager Katie Turkalo explained “The story is seen from the Russian Prince and his wife’s point of view. It tells the story of how the couple handles money entrusted to them by the Czar, how they live their lives after fleeing from Russia to Paris, France, and how they affect others who surround them in a positive way.”
Cale Morrow, who plays Commissioner Gorotchenko in the play, talked about his role as the bad guy. He said “Gorotchenko really doesn’t come into the play until near the end, but his role makes an impact into the story.”
Dates and times for “Tovarich” can be found at theatre.ku.edu/calendar/events. Each performance will take place at the Crafton-Preyer Theatre on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence. If you plan on going, make sure to bring a comrade.
