Reporting during wartime may be the ultimate challenge for the media. But the conflict between Israel and Hamas revealed, yet again, the severe limitations of traditional journalism.
Five media fails stand out in particular.

Faith and Firearms - The Biblical, Historical and Practical Basis for Self-de...Peter Hammond
This document discusses the biblical, historical, and practical basis for self-defense using firearms. It argues that God commands people to protect their families, and that self-defense is natural and endorsed in both English common law tradition and the Bible. It cites examples of unarmed groups being massacred and argues that disarming law-abiding citizens leaves them vulnerable while emboldening criminals. The document advocates for the right of individuals to possess lethal weapons for self-defense and deters tyrannical governments from oppressing disarmed populations.
The document discusses the September 11th terrorist attacks and the international response. It describes celebrations of the attacks in Palestinian territories and condemnation from other countries. It examines the roots of terrorism in radical Islamic teachings and the failure of Western nations to confront terrorist groups and state sponsors of terrorism in the past. It argues the free world must now take decisive action to stop terrorist organizations and the countries supporting them to prevent future attacks.

While Iraqi and coalition forces battle ISIS to liberate Mosul, competing political interests and conspiracy theories are spreading confusion and chaos. Multiple groups are fighting for control of Mosul and its future governance. Civilians fear violence and human rights abuses may occur regardless of who wins. Rothschild's Invasion of Iraq and AfghanistanDustin DeMoss
The document discusses conspiracy theories that claim the 2003 US invasion of Iraq was orchestrated by the Rothschild family to further their goals. It outlines the theories, which assert that neoconservative thinkers who advocated for the war were secretly acting on behalf of the Rothschilds. It acknowledges the historical power of the Rothschild family's private banking business but questions whether they orchestrated the Iraq war behind the scenes given a lack of evidence from the conspiracy theorists. It aims to seriously analyze any actual connections between the Rothschilds and the invasion.
L. a. rollins the 'holocaust' as sacred cow - journal of historical review ...RareBooksnRecords
This document summarizes and critiques commonly held beliefs about the Holocaust and argues that some aspects have taken on a dogmatic or sacred quality without sufficient evidence. It makes the following key points:
1) The figure of 6 million Jewish deaths is often asserted as an undisputed fact, but the document shows it was an early estimate that varied by over 1 million according to some historians.
2) Accounts of how the 6 million figure was determined contradict the available evidence and appear to be assertions of faith rather than based on facts.
3) Even some prominent Jewish Holocaust scholars have estimated Jewish deaths lower than 6 million, casting doubt on the idea that it is an indisputable figure accepted by all scholars.

Margaret Thatcher's time as Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990 overlapped with the author's early years as an editor at the BMJ. Thatcher attempted to suppress reports that highlighted inequalities in health and evidence that increasing alcohol prices reduced harm. As an individualist who disbelieved in society, Thatcher did not like public health and the sociologically-inspired articles on alcohol policy written by the author. Thatcher largely stayed away from the NHS due to public affection for it, but her proposals to introduce market mechanisms and management sowed the seeds for further reforms. While her changes did not seem radical in retrospect, they contributed to a sense that the traditional NHS was ending.

On 21 June 2010, Pakistani American Faisal Shahzad told a judge in a Manhattan
federal court that he placed a bomb at a busy intersection in Times Square as
payback for the US occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq and for its worldwide use
of drone strikes. When the judge asked how Shahzad could be comfortable killing
innocent people, including women and children, he responded: ‘Well, the drone
hits in Afghanistan and Iraq, they don’t see children, they don’t see anybody. They
kill women, children, they kill everybody. It’s a war and in war, they kill people.
They’re killing all Muslims.’1
In a videotape released after his arrest, Shahzad
revealed that among his motives for the attack on New York City was revenge
for the death of Baitullah Mehsud, a Pakistani Taliban leader killed in a drone
strike in August 2009.2
While his comments were reported in the American press,
the Obama administration never acknowledged that it was revulsion over drone
strikes—which Shahzad was rumoured to have seen at first hand when training
with militant groups in Pakistan—that prompted his attack.3
In his official statement
on the attack, President Obama fell back on language reminiscent of his
predecessor to describe Shahzad as just another of those ‘who would attack our
citizens and who would slaughter innocent men, women and children in pursuit
of their murderous agenda’ and ‘will stop at nothing to kill and disrupt our way of
life’.4
That the Times Square attack was blowback from the growing use of drone
strikes in Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere was never admitted.
The document discusses the long road that led to the Holocaust, exploring religious anti-Semitism, racial anti-Semitism, and political environment as preconditions. Religious anti-Semitism stemmed from ancient times and the myth that Jews crucified Jesus, subjecting them to persecution for centuries. Racial anti-Semitism developed in the late 1800s as German scholars promoted theories of Aryan racial purity and Jewish degradation. The political environment, influenced by imperialism and defeat in WWI, allowed anti-Semitic nationalists to scapegoat Jews and foster resentment. All of these factors reinforced each other over many years to create a society accepting of Jewish persecution and the horrors to come.
How to eliminate the causes of violence in brazil and the worldFernando Alcoforado
This document discusses perspectives on human nature and the causes of violence from various religions, philosophies and thinkers. It outlines views that human nature is originally good but corrupted by ignorance, or that humans have an innate tendency towards both good and evil. Eastern religions generally believe human nature is intrinsically good but corrupted, while Christianity, Judaism and Islam see humans as inherently capable of both good and evil. The document also discusses perspectives on human nature from Freud, Rogers, Hobbes, Rousseau, Marx and others. It suggests education can transform human weaknesses and help eliminate the causes of violence.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) continues its global activism against antisemitism and hate. Some key activities described in the document include:

PaperHive Conversations_ Greg McLaughlin - PaperHive MagazineManuel Sierra Alonso
Greg McLaughlin is a sociologist and writer who has authored several books on media coverage of significant events. This interview discusses two key changes in war media coverage between editions of his book The War Correspondent: the rise of embedded journalists which allows military control over reporting, and the impact of social media which provides immediate information but also propaganda risks. McLaughlin believes citizens must seek alternative sources of information to get a more complete picture beyond the official narratives presented by corporate media sources.
WE SHOULD PAY MORE ATTENTION to WHAT is DELETEDPeter Hammond
The document discusses how truth and history are often suppressed or manipulated by those in power. It notes that more attention should be paid to what is deleted rather than just what is reported. Key points made include that facts are often hidden to protect lies and propaganda, and inconvenient facts from important historical events and figures are routinely sealed for decades to control the narrative. The document warns of a rising tide of censorship and the suppression of free speech.
This article analyzes Israel's bellicose defense policies through the lens of constructivism. It argues that Israel views threats existentially due to Jewish history, including recent oppression like pogroms and the Holocaust. Several Jewish holidays commemorate violent events of genocide, diaspora, and enslavement, promoting the perception that Jews must take action to defend themselves. This shapes Israel's identity and threat perception, explaining its preemptive strike in the Six-Day War as a defensive measure against what it viewed as existential threats from surrounding Arab states like Egypt closing shipping lanes. The article aims to understand rather than criticize Israeli policy by acknowledging how Jewish history informs Israel's worldview.
The document contains a series of quotes that promote anti-Muslim/anti-Jewish bigotry by falsely claiming these groups are disloyal, hostile infiltrators seeking domination, and are fundamentally evil or a threat to humanity. It concludes by stating that anti-Semitism was wrong historically and Islamophobia is similarly wrong now, as America should reject bigotry.
This document discusses the risks that journalists face when reporting from hostile environments. It notes that between 1996-2006, 1000 journalists were killed, which is almost 2 per week. Reporters are often targeted and killed to prevent their stories from being published. Witnessing violence and conflict can also negatively impact journalists' psychological health, with over 25% struggling with PTSD. While support organizations provide education, journalists continue to suffer without adequate protection, training or mental health support for working in dangerous conditions.
This lesson discusses how maintaining strong family values is key to building a peaceful world. It explains that many past civilizations declined due to a loss of moral principles brought on by economic prosperity and selfishness. When families break down through divorce, single parenthood, abortion or lack of commitment to marriage, societies face higher costs and social problems. However, bringing people of all backgrounds together to celebrate the sacredness of marriage and promote purity before marriage can help strengthen families and communities. With families providing love and moral education, lasting peace is possible.

1) The document summarizes an interview from 1976 between a Jewish administrative assistant named Harold Rosenthal and a concerned patriot named Walter White Jr. Rosenthal makes shocking claims about Jewish dominance and control in America.
2) Rosenthal claims that Jews control all news media and have used this to influence Americans without their knowledge. He says no politician can rise to power without Jewish approval and that every president since 1932 has been "our man."
3) Rosenthal expresses contempt for American stupidity and says Jews toy with Americans like a cat toys with a mouse. He hints that America deserves the "reign of terror" being planned for defeating their agenda. Rosenthal was later assassinated, believed to be by his
The country that_saved_itself-readers_digest-clarence_hall-1960s-24pgs-polRareBooksnRecords
This document provides a summary of how Brazil nearly fell to communist domination in the early 1960s but was saved by a counterrevolution led by the country's middle class. It describes how communists had infiltrated the government under President Joao Goulart and were preparing to seize full control. However, civilian groups like IPES investigated the extent of communist influence and coordinated plans to prevent a communist takeover. They staged a swift and relatively bloodless revolution in 1964 that removed Goulart from power and halted the communist drive, saving Brazil from communist rule. The document argues this revolution showed that committed citizens can stop communism and provided a model for other threatened nations.
The document discusses the brutal violence that has occurred throughout history and in contemporary times in the name of religion, from the Crusades where crusaders brutally killed and tortured Muslims, to more recent religious conflicts and riots where all sides have committed atrocities like rape, torture, and mass killings. It also examines how novels have graphically portrayed the extreme violence of religious conflicts, conveying the intense suffering experienced by victims in a way that historical accounts cannot. The root causes of religious violence are argued to be blind religious faith combined with political and economic conflicts that are exploited for power.
The Enemy Within: United States news framing of the Boston bombingsAlice C Woodward
The document discusses media framing of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, analyzing how 10 news articles from major US newspapers and CNN portrayed America's victimhood and the identity of the perpetrators in the days after the attack. On the first day when the perpetrators were unknown, some articles implicitly connected the bombings to Islamic terrorism through references to 9/11. The articles also constructed an emotive narrative of American patriotism and victimhood through vivid imagery and historical references. After the suspects were identified as Chechen brothers, coverage shifted to framing them as foreign enemies from the Caucasus region.

Zealot Files - Rosenthal Interview on the Zionist ConspiracyZurich Files

Marxism is a socio-political ideology based on the ideas of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels that analyzes history through the lens of class struggle. Marxism views capitalism as inherently exploitative and advocates for a socialist system and eventually communism. Gramsci expanded on Marxism through his concept of cultural hegemony, which argues that dominant ideologies are promoted through institutions like the media to maintain the status quo and false consciousness among subordinate classes. Applying Marxist theory to modern media, critics argue media institutions are owned by the ruling class and used to indoctrinate the masses into supporting capitalism.
The 2014 Gaza War was a seminal event for Israel that inadvertently averted a potential catastrophe. While Israel did not want the war, Hamas rejected 11 ceasefire attempts and tried to manipulate the media to portray Israel's actions negatively. By prolonging the conflict, Hamas exposed its plan for surprise attacks through tunnels that could have resulted in massacres of Israeli civilians. Israel was prepared to conduct a war of attrition and maintain support from allies despite international condemnation, undermining Hamas' strategy. Ultimately, Hamas' prolonging of the war defeated itself by revealing its more sinister plans.
The document analyzes how five Pan-Arab newspapers - The Daily Star (Lebanon), Al-Ahram (Egypt), Al-Sharq Al-Awsat and Al-Jazeera (Qatar), and The National (UAE) - covered Israel's blockade of Gaza and the Freedom Flotillas between 2010-2011. It finds that while the newspapers attempted to appear neutral, they ultimately took pro-Palestinian stances to varying degrees. The Daily Star focused on Israel's aggression and brutality, diplomatic allegiances, and calls for peace by Hamas. Coverage of the blockade highlighted the conflict, international allegiances, and leadership positions on the issue.
Article in The Times of Israel by Andy Blumenthal: With the October 7 invasion, Hamas was after something much bigger and more important to them than the one-day massacre of Israelis; they wanted a massive blood libel against Israel to turn the world against them.
Just like Hamas used a barrage of missiles on the day of their attack to divert from their invasion, so too was the invasion and massacre itself a manipulative provocation, for any forceful response whatsoever automatically turns the perception of Israel into the “genocidal” aggressors.
To our great detriment, Hamas’s strategy was largely successful. They inflicted significant damage on Israel and the Jewish people not only through sheer terrorism but also through the insidious setup for Israel to be perceived as the perpetrator rather than the victim. However, now it is Israel's turn not only to destroy Hamas and rescue the hostages but also to set the record straight.
The document provides updates on several news stories related to Germany, Israel, and American Jews:
1) It discusses the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, with Germany placing blame on Hamas for the violence.
2) It summarizes the results of the recent US election, noting that American Jews continued to support Democrats but by a slightly smaller margin than in 2008.
3) It pays tribute to Larry Ramer, the founder of AJC Berlin’s institute, who recently passed away, recognizing his important work in German-Jewish relations.

2) A study finding that donations from American Jews to Israeli non-profits have doubled over the past 12 years, disproving the idea that donations have declined. The strong familial bond between American Jews and Israel is discussed.

1) The document summarizes reactions from world leaders to Hamas' victory in the Palestinian elections, with most expressing concern that Hamas is a terrorist organization that has not renounced violence or recognized Israel.
2) World leaders state that Hamas must choose between violence and democracy, and that they will not cooperate with any Palestinian government that includes or is led by Hamas unless it renounces violence and recognizes Israel.
3) The document argues that if Palestinians wanted peace, they would not have voted for Hamas and instead could have supported the secular, non-violent alternative party that received only 2% of the vote.
After the fall of the USSR, Western countries dominated the global narrative and perspective. Al-Jazeera was launched in 1996 as the first independent Arabic news channel to offer an alternative perspective and give voice to Arab opinions. It gained prominence covering the US war in Afghanistan when other networks were expelled. While popular in Europe and the Middle East, Al-Jazeera has faced accusations of bias from the US and was banned briefly in India for its coverage of Kashmir. The network argues it provides a needed alternative to Western-dominated media perspectives.
The document summarizes events related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from February to March 2008. It reports that 106 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in Gaza over 6 days, including 25 children. It also describes Israeli missile strikes targeting Palestinian children and the denial of medical care to Palestinians by Israeli authorities. The document discusses evidence that the US engineered violence between Fatah and Hamas factions in Gaza and leaked documents revealing this. It provides other brief updates on related political and human rights issues.
Speed in reporting through social media can both help and hinder providing context to news events. In the Israel-Palestine conflict, graphic images on social media provided context that challenged pro-Israel narratives. However, in Ukraine, social media initially provided a one-sided view that failed to acknowledge complexities. Real-time reporting risks disconnected snippets lacking analysis, but can also introduce new perspectives when pre-existing contexts are challenged. Journalists must verify information, seek dissenting voices, and understand motivations of social media sources to provide balanced coverage in a timely manner.

This document provides summaries of several news items related to Israel and the Palestinian territories:
1) The upcoming Gaza flotilla is aimed at supporting Hamas politically rather than providing humanitarian aid, and risks harming participants and escalating tensions.
2) A unilateral Palestinian declaration of statehood will likely end peace negotiations and harm the Palestinian people through loss of funding and living standards as two dependent territories face economic crisis.
3) A discussion of life in Jerusalem notes its growing population, with most residents having low incomes and poor economic prospects regardless of the city's political future.
Du bow Digest Germany Edition June 30, 2011dubowdigest
This summary provides the key points from the document in 3 sentences:
The document discusses several topics related to Israel including the upcoming Gaza flotilla, the potential Palestinian unilateral declaration of statehood, and the views of German politicians on these issues. It also summarizes an article about the different priorities of "security Jews" versus "democracy Jews" when it comes to Israel. Throughout, the document analyzes how these events and perspectives could impact Israel, the Palestinian territories, and the peace process.
The Israeli army raided the Al-Aqsa Foundation in Umm al-Fahm, removing thousands of historic documents that preserve Islamic and Christian heritage in Jerusalem. The documents are considered valuable from historical, cultural, and academic perspectives. Israel's actions have been condemned internationally and Palestinians are calling for pressure on Israel to return the documents. Friends of Al-Aqsa have also called on governments to intervene to ensure the documents are returned. Some fear this is an attempt by Israel to erase the historic rights of non-Jews in Jerusalem. Reports have also emerged of Israeli clerics calling for attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the murder of a prominent Palestinian peace activist.
- Whole neighborhoods in Gaza were flattened from bombing, leaving families homeless with destroyed possessions. Parents tried to comfort their distressed children and repeated they would first rebuild and then seek revenge.
- The article examines Hamas' relationship with other organizations like Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah, and how regional conflicts have distracted players like Hezbollah and Iran from engaging in the current conflict.
- It analyzes how America views Hamas and other groups, and how Israeli policy does not negotiate with what it deems terrorist states or groups like Iran, which Israel sees as the most dangerous player and has long had concerns about Iran's nuclear program.
The U.S. Military Industrial Complex: A Diagrammatic Representationelegantbrain
This document provides an overview of President Eisenhower's concept of the "military industrial complex" and how it has grown significantly since his warning. It describes the military industrial complex as a conglomerate of weapons manufacturers, suppliers, and intelligence agencies that influence policy and budget priorities through political lobbying. While initially dismissed, Eisenhower's warning has become increasingly relevant as the complex continues expanding and influencing foreign policy decisions and budgets, to the detriment of domestic priorities and quality of life. The document also discusses how U.S. militarism and interventions abroad have negatively impacted people in other countries and can result in "blowback" such as terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.
The document summarizes the Goldstone report, which investigated violations of international law during the 2008-2009 Gaza War. The report found that Israel and Palestinian armed groups both committed war crimes. It called for independent investigations and possible referral to the International Criminal Court if no credible investigations were conducted. However, the author questions whether the report will have any real impact, given Israel's powerful allies and ability to veto UN Security Council decisions. While increasing international awareness of human rights issues in Gaza, the report was also politicized by factions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Thousands protested in London against Israel's attack on Gaza. Over 60,000 people marched from Embankment to Trafalgar Square on January 3rd, throwing old shoes towards Downing Street. Speakers like Annie Lennox and politicians condemned the bombing of civilians and called for a resolution through negotiations rather than violence. Meanwhile, Israel stopped foreign journalists from entering Gaza to report on the effects of the attacks and the humanitarian crisis.

This document summarizes key findings from two books that detail extensive documentation of prisoner abuse and torture by U.S. forces in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay. It describes how ambiguous and contradictory directives from President Bush and top officials created confusion over what interrogation techniques were allowed. This led to the widespread use of abusive techniques across multiple prisons, including hooding, beatings, sexual humiliation, and in some cases killing prisoners. The document provides numerous specific examples of torture reported by prisoners and investigations. It concludes that while no high-level officials directly ordered torture, the policies and mixed messages they endorsed helped enable the systematic abuse of prisoners.
- Israel presents information about its actions during Operation Protective Edge from July to August 2014 against Hamas in Gaza. It aims to explain its decisions and emphasize it did not violate international law.
- Israel provides background on Gaza's geography, demographics, and its 2005 withdrawal of settlers, arguing this shows it does not seek destruction of Palestinians. However, when faced with continual attacks from Hamas, it has a duty to protect its citizens.
- During Operation Protective Edge, Hamas fired over 4,500 rockets at Israel, including after a ceasefire. Israel responded in an attempt to limit civilian casualties while protecting its own people. It argues figures are difficult to independently verify due to Hamas threats against journalists.
International Law And The Fighting In Gaza Power Point Aas2marissyb29
The document summarizes international law as it pertains to the fighting in Gaza in 2009. It discusses key principles of distinction and proportionality under international law. It analyzes how Hamas' rocket attacks on Israeli civilians violate these principles and constitute war crimes. The document also examines how Hamas uses civilian infrastructure like mosques, hospitals and schools to carry out military operations, in violation of international humanitarian law.

2. Casualty Figures as
Moral Barometer
Reporters often relied on figures provided by the
Hamas-run Gazan Health Ministry even though Hamas
has a strategic interest in inflating the numbers.
3. Casualty Figures as Moral Barometer
Col. (Ret.) Reuven Erlich of the Meir Amit
Intelligence and Information Center checked 152
names supplied by the Gazan Health Ministry:
“The list was done hastily and later changes
were made. There were a number of false
names listed; the details of the dead are only
partial, making identification suspicious. There
are names used more than once and some
might have been killed by their own fire
rather than by the Israeli army. The list
doesn’t differentiate between civilians and
terror operatives. All the dead are listed as
‘shahids’ [martyrs].”

4. Casualty Figures as Moral Barometer
Media outlets often claimed a
civilian count as high as 80%.
But a New York Times report
found that a suspiciously high
number of casualties were
males aged 20 to 29 –- the
primary age of Hamas terrorists.

5. Casualty Figures as Moral Barometer
Mainstream media
often presented a
casualty „scoreboard‰
–– Palestinian numbers
next to Israeli numbers.
These numbers
have moral undertones. Reported without
context, they suggest that Israel was the
aggressor or that the threat against Israel
was exaggerated.
6. Casualty Figures as Moral Barometer
But „the score‰ is not the whole story.
It does not reveal the
efforts Israel made to
protect its civilians,
and it doesnÊt take
into account the
ways Hamas
endangered civilians
by turning residential
neighborhoods into
battle zones.
7. Casualty Figures as Moral Barometer
As Bret Stephens wrote in The Wall Street Journal:
“The real utility of the body count
is that it offers reporters and
commentators who cite it the
chance to ascribe implicit blame
to Israel while evading questions
about ultimate responsibility for
the killing.”

8. The “Battered
Journalist” Syndrome
Hamas intimidates journalists. The situation in
Gaza was so severe that the Foreign Press
Association (FPA) issued a scathing condemnation
of HamasÊs behavior towards journalists:
9. The “Battered Journalist” Syndrome
From the Foreign Press Association’s statement:!
“The FPA protests in the strongest terms the
blatant, incessant, forceful and unorthodox
methods employed by the Hamas authorities and
their representatives against visiting international
journalists in Gaza over the past month.
…
“In several cases, foreign reporters working in Gaza
have been harassed, threatened or questioned over
stories or information they have reported through
their news media or by means of social media.”
Source: http://www.fpa.org.il/index.php?categoryId=73840!
10. The “Battered Journalist” Syndrome
Amazingly, the response from some of the most influential
journalists covering Gaza was that the entire issue was over-blown.
The New York Times Jerusalem Bureau Chief Jodi Rudoren even
called the FPA statement „nonsense‰ on Twitter.
11. The “Battered Journalist” Syndrome
Why go out of the way to downplay
something that had an obvious impact on
the stories that emerged from the conflict?
Because if reporters were transparent about
the challenges they faced, they would have to
admit that Hamas exerted some level of control
over the stories that came out of Gaza.
12. The “Battered Journalist” Syndrome
As journalist Michael Totten wrote following the publication of
the FPAÊs statement:
“The Gaza war was a huge story, of course,
and it had to be covered, but it could just as
easily have been covered from the Israeli
side of the line. Covering both sides of the
story is of course preferable whenever
possible, but providing balanced coverage
from Israel alongside censored coverage
from Gaza is a form of journalistic
malpractice. Stop it.”

13. Failure to Disclose
Missing Information
Many journalists and photographers insisted
their work was unhindered by Hamas but
could not explain credibly why there were so
few pictures of Hamas fighters in action.
14. Failure to Disclose Missing Information
The New York TimesÊ star photographer Tyler Hicks
said he didnÊt see any terrorists or rocket launchers.
„ItÊs as if they donÊt exist,‰
he said.
ThatÊs how most photo sections
treated the issue – as if rocket
launchers and the people firing
them at Israel didnÊt exist.

15. Failure to Disclose Missing Information
But there was no shortage of photos
of Palestinians reacting to Israeli
airstrikes. In numerous photo
galleries of Gaza, it was hard to tell
that there were two sides fighting,
not just one.
Media outlets have an obligation
to let readers know whatÊs missing.
16. Over-Emphasis on
Grisly War Photos
While there were virtually no
pictures of Hamas fighters
during the days of heavy
fighting in Gaza, there was an
abundance of pictures of
children and babies hurt in
Israeli airstrikes.
17. Over-Emphasis on Grisly War Photos
But it badly
misrepresented the
fighting in Gaza.
Taken together with
the absence of photos
of Hamas fighters, the
message is clear:
Israel is an aggressor
that targets children.
In reality, Israel was fighting to protect its citizens against
rocket attacks and terrorist tunnels under its borders.
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zQIFCKJlXg!
19. Failure to State Hamas’s Real Goals
Throughout the weeks of
fighting, and especially
during the periods of
negotiations for a cease-fire,
the media claimed that
HamasÊs main motivation
was either to ease the
blockade around Gaza or to
open a port or airport.
So why did Hamas spend
years building a complex of
tunnels and bunkers that
reached across the border
and into Israel?
20. Failure to State Hamas’s Real Goals
It would be more
honest to point out
that Hamas is
committed to
IsraelÊs annihilation.
Its charter says so
clearly.
“The Islamic Resistance Movement is one of the
links in the chain of the struggle against the
Zionist invaders. It goes back to 1939… and
Muslim Brotherhood in the 1948 war and the
Jihad operations of the Muslim Brotherhood in
1968 and after.!
!
“…the Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to
the realization of Allah's promise, no matter how
long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless
him and grant him salvation, has said:!
!
“’The Day of Judgement will not come about until
Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when
the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The
stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdulla,
there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him…’”!

21. Failure to State Hamas’s Real Goals
The media has an obligation to present the conflict
as it is: the aggression of a terrorist group working
for the destruction of Israel, and IsraelÊs efforts to
defend its citizens.
22. Failure to State Hamas’s Real Goals
As S.E. Cupp wrote in The New York Daily News:
“Rarely is it mentioned in a news report that Hamas’
primary objective, its main goal, what it really
wants and what its military arm is designed and
determined to get, is the total destruction of
Israel and the annihilation of the Jews.
“It’s a crucial component that’s regularly left out of
news reports. But any story that does not mention
this among Hamas’ chief demands is not an
intellectually honest or complete one.”
