Thomas Hicks Sr. is a businessman from Dallas, Texas who received his BBA from the University of Texas in 1968 and his MBA from the University of Southern California in 1970. He co-founded several private equity firms including Hicks & Haas in 1984, Hicks, Muse, Tate, and Furst in 1989, and his current firm Hicks Holdings in 2004. Hicks Holdings specializes in buyouts of sports teams, real estate, manufacturing, oil and gas companies. Hicks previously owned several professional sports teams but had difficulties with the ownership and filed for bankruptcy with the Texas Rangers. He is currently in the process of selling the Dallas Stars hockey team.
