2. SOME INFORMATION ABOUT
TOKYO OLYMPIC
The Summer Games, initially
scheduled for Tokyo in July and
August 2020, were delayed for
a year because of the
coronavirus pandemic. The
Games were rescheduled to
proceed from July 23 to Aug. 8,
2021.
The first recorded Olympic
Games were held at Olympia in
the Greek city-state of Elis in
776 B.C
How many times has Tokyo
hosted the Games?
Once before, in 1964. Japan also
hosted the Winter Games in
Sapporo in 1972 and Nagano in
1998.
3. OPENING CEREMONY
Date and time- 23 July 2021, 4:30pm
The opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be held on
Friday at the National Stadium in Tokyo amid the COVID-19 concerns
in the Japanese capital. A total of twenty six members from the Indian
contingent will attend the opening ceremony in Tokyo (20 athletes
and 6 officials)In the ceremony, Greece enters first to stadium as Ist
Olympic was held . India was at serial number 21 in the march past.
The sequence of march past is as per the Japanese alphabet. However
Japan enter last to the stadium. Naomi Osaka is the final bearer of the
Olympic torch and lights up the Olympic cauldron to officially open
the Games. The Olympic torch is lit. The Tokyo Games were declared
open by IOC president Thomas Bach and the Emperor of Japan.
4. CLOSING CEREMONY
Date and time : 8 August 2021, 4:30pm
The Tokyo Olympics are officially over. IOC President
Thomas Bach declared the Games closed after the French
flag was raised inside Olympic Stadium for the transition to
Paris 2024. After a short performance in the stadium, the
cauldron closed around the Olympic flame, extinguishing it.
The ceremony included a ska band on a stage with people
dancing, juggling and soccer players moving around an
elevated stage in the center of the stadium. Medals for the
marathon were presented — an Olympic tradition —
followed by traditional Japanese dances inside the stadium
and on the videoboard. An opera singer performed during
the International Olympic Committee anthem, then the
transition to Paris 2024 that included a flyover in front of
thousands of fans in front of the Eiffel Tower.
--The theme of the Tokyo Olympics closing ceremony will be
"Worlds We Share". The ceremony will highlight "the idea
that each of us inhabits their own world."
5. HIGHLIGHTS
India finished 48th on the medal
tally in Tokyo, its highest ranking
in over four decades.
1 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze - India
produced it's richest-ever medal
haul and the finest performance
of all time at the 2020 Tokyo
Olympics, which ended on
Sunday.
