3. What is Canva?
Canva is a powerful design tool that can be used in education to create projects
that not only look great but also help teach students the basics of digital design.
This is a free tool that allows students and teachers to work with photo editing,
design layout, and more, all within an easy-to-use platform.

• Pre-sized social media images.
• Designer templates get your graphics started.
• Lots of size and shape options.
• Save your images to edit or download later.

5. Note: You will need
an account to use
Canva, you can sign
up using your Gmail
account.

6. How to sign up in Canva?
Go to canva.com. From the signup page,
choose Continue with email or Continue with
work email.

7. Enter the email address you’d like to use
Canva for.

8. Enter the authorization code sent to your
email address.
Verify your email address by following the
steps in the email sent to you.

9. Once signed in, your dashboard will look
like this:

10. How to Use the
Canva App
Download Canva in
Playstore (for Android)
App Store (for Iphone
users) or Huawei App
Gallery (for Huawei)

11. The interface will look

12. Once you have the app,
either login to your
account, or sign up for
one.
Then you’ll see a range
of options. Pick a type of
image or even jump
straight into a template.

13. Once you’re there,
you can change
colors, add filters,
and move
elements around.
You can even
change to add a
picture from your
camera roll. Or
use one of the
ones Canva
provides.

15. 1. This is a quick search of some of their most popular
templates and types of posts. If you just need
something simple like an infographic, presentation of
Instagram post template, you can find that here.
2. This is where you can find your library of projects
and a more extensive template library
3. If you scroll down a bit, this is a quick access tab for
any recent projects you have been working on

16. How to start a Project:
Either chose a layout/template from the quick access menu or
the sidebar. You can start from a blank canvas, or chose
from any of the available templates you can access via the
“templates” tab.

17. Once you’ve decided on a template (or idea if not using a
template), you can begin to add elements.
Don’t want to use a
template, but also don’t
want your design to be
white? Change the color
by clicking on the
canvas. A little rainbow
square will pop up in
the upper left corner.
Click that to toggle
different colors for your
canvas color.

18. Or, you can create your own
custom color:

19. Once the background color
has been selected, you can
begin to add elements like
images and text
The side bar on the right
side of the canvas is for the
this purpose.

20. The first tab is for templates if
you decide to change your
mind after creating a blank
canvas
The second tab is for elements
like icons, free images and
other graphics.

21. The next tab is for uploading
your own images from your
computer. Once your image is
uploaded, simply drag it to your
canvas to add it to your
design.

22. The next tab is for adding text,
click on the type of text you
want to add if to your canvas.
The “font combinations” are
additional stylized text options
you can use.

23. Go to ‘text’ on the menu and choose
an effect you like.
Then click ‘effects’ along the top
menu to see what you can do with it.
For example, here, you can use
shadow or lift. You can make the
words hollow, slice or echo. Plus,
you can change the color of the
shadow!

24. For things like infographics, charts and
graphs are really important.
And there’s a whole range you can
make in Canva.
Go to the ‘elements’ option on the
menu and scroll to ‘charts.’

25. Also under Elements, you’ll find loads of
icons to use in your designs.
From simple line icons to full visual images,
there are tons of choices in Canva.
In the ‘Elements’ menu, type in what you
want. Below, you can see I searched ‘bird
icon.’
Select the one you want and move it into place on
the design.

26. Stickers are like animated icons. They
add movement to a graphic which is
popular for lots of social media sites.
There are word stickers, arrows, shapes,
and even emojis.
Use stickers to highlight a call to action,
emphasize something important, or just to
grab attention.

27. Gradients are a big trend
and a fun way to add
color to a design.
There are all kinds of
shapes in Canva with
premade gradients.
Plus, you can change the
colors on them to match
your branding or design.
