2. Hello, Fellow Teachers and
Learners!
I am excited to start this course with
you. Though it will be a challenge, I hope
to gain and share as much as possible
through our exercises and interactions.
Looking forward to working with all of you
in both our virtual and face-to-face
environments. Here’s to a great
semester together!!!
3. A little about Me…
This is my second year in the MAT program at
ESC . My first year was a challenge while dealing
with the aftermath of flooding in my already
economically depressed area.
While providing relief efforts and observing
students in my school district, many disparities
amongst students and families in my community
became disturbingly apparent. I am excited and
motivated to define my role in the local school
district and community through our concentrations
in this program.
4. Student Me…
After a long and winding
road, I graduated from SUNY
Cortland with a BS in Biology in
2008. This was 4 majors (one
being education) and some years
later than I had anticipated. Wow,
I really got around…
…Computer Programming,
Medical Assisting, Nursing,
Adolescent Education-Biology,
Biology with concentration on
conservation and limnology.
5. Some field research…
Shortly after
graduation, I set out
for three months to
conduct field research
for the University of
Pittsburg. The focus
of the study was on
wetland invasive
species and current
biocontrol efficacy.
6. Professional Me…
Through all of my student
endeavors, I have worked for the Southern
Tier Independence Center. A local non-
profit agency that serves developmentally
disabled children and adults. Most of my
clients have been children along the autism
spectrum. It has been a very rewarding
position and one I will be little sad to give
up.
Four years ago, I was offered a
teaching position in a grocery store parking
lot after catching up with the director of
Ridley who I hadn’t seen for 10 years.
Since then, I have been teaching Anatomy
and Physiology, Medical Terminology, and
Pharmacology (among others) part time in
their Medical Assisting program.
I LOVE to teach and have a
philosophy that is grounded in providing
real world connectedness and
compassion for my students. I am here
to take the most from my courses,
colleagues, and classroom experiences.
7. Personal Me…
I live with my three year
old daughter in the Southern
Tier of NY. We like to explore
our community, zoo and
museums, and the numerous
parks in our area (even in the
winter ) . I try to take time to
smell the roses, but often find
little time to just relax (but I
can live vicariously through my
SL avatar)
8. Our Course…
Hmm..
Looks like it will be a challenge…
Hopefully we will all fly through it!
9. It will be productive and fun…
With none of us ending up
here!
