1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Why
It’s a simple fact: Schools do not have the resources to support all students
physically, emotionally, and academically. And one thing is clear – throwing
money at schools is not the answer. So, what is? One of the best ways to help
move the needle in our schools is by increasing the positive adult relationships
a student has each day.
The impact of more caring adults in a student’s life can have positive effects on
their attendance, self-esteem, attitude towards school and their likelihood to
attend college and set career goals. But why are there not more mentors in
America’s schools?
more likely to enroll in
college than those who did
not have a mentor*
Fast Fact:
Students who face an
opportunity gap but have a
mentor are
How EDUTEERS Works
“I want to volunteer, but I just don’t know what I could do to help
or how to find the right school”.
The reason is not because there is a lack of interested volunteers; it is because they do not know where
to look. Potential volunteers are unsure of how their talents would benefit a school, are unfamiliar with
their local school system, or the set school hours do not work with their own schedules.
EDUTEERS is an on-line platform that provides information for potential volunteers to find schools that
need their help the most. The process is easy:
1. Potential volunteers sign up for an account on
www.eduteers.org.
2. Volunteers search for schools with options to filter by age
group, type of school, and much more,
3. Volunteers find the right fit and begin making a difference!
4. Volunteers also have ability to have their hours logged and
reviewed by schools
Competitors
Idealist is the closest resource in the market to EDUTEERS,
however, they lack two major components: 1) they do not
specifically cater to education and schools, and 2) volunteers do
not get the reviews and hours logged from the hours they give to
their community
Business Model
EDUTEERS’ profits will come from:
• Annual costs for schools and districts to access the
volunteer network on the company website
• Platinum memberships to volunteers who would like to
become paid employees at schools as teachers, substitutes
and more
The Need
After speaking with schools,
districts and potential volunteers,
the feedback has been
enthusiastically positive. One fan,
the Head of Staffing and
Recruitment for the New Jersey
Depart of Education, has said:
“I would buy this right now
for my entire district. I could
track volunteers in all my
schools and start looking for
new talent”.* As reported by The Mentoring Effect, 2014
