Tidal energy is generated by harnessing the natural rise and fall of tides using moving parts that convert the water's motion into energy through mechanisms like turbines connected to generators. While a renewable source without pollution that operates continuously, tidal energy is also location dependent, visually impacts coastlines, and has costs associated with transferring the energy and potential negative effects on local ecosystems.

Rain gardens are landscaped areas designed to capture and filter stormwater runoff from rooftops and paved surfaces. They slow stormwater entering the stormwater system which reduces flooding and pollution entering urban waterways. Rain gardens also help beautify gardens while keeping rainwater onsite longer for plants and soil. Appropriate construction and planting of drought-tolerant plants that can withstand temporary flooding is important for rain gardens to function properly and drain within a day of major rainfall events.
