This poem describes a threadbare old shirt that has been worn and washed many times over the course of its owner's life. Though thin and worn, the shirt still clings to the owner's frame, representing dignity and memories of special occasions. While light and air say the shirt should unravel and return to its beginnings, it refuses to surrender and could fly, or cling to life, forever through the dignity it represents.
