1. Music video analysis of “Numb” by Linkin Park
28734612694
This is an analysis of the video “Numb” by Linkin Park. This is yet another video which takes a look at the narrative side of the song and at the performance side of it too. The narrative scenes are taken at school, at home and on the bridge and the performance scenes are shot in a cathedral. It is the story of a young girl who is not accepted at school by the other students and who is also not her mother’s favourite daughter.
2947601-1665
Throughout the video, the girl gets shouted and is ridiculed by several people. First the teacher shouts at her for drawing and not paying attention to the lesson and all the other students just laugh at her for that. She also gets told off by her mother, probably for not being the daughter she wants her to be. In the video, the girl falls down at school. Does she trip or is she pushed? It isn’t cleared. We can clearly see that she is interested in painting but her mother isn’t interested in what the daughter wants. As the lyrics state it clearly, the girl is tired of her mother wanting her to be like her but she’d rather want to pursue her dreams and be herself. At the end of the video, the girl cannot handle it anymore and she shows her anger by splashing paint on a canvas and runs to the cathedral where the Linkin Park were playing but she finds it empty. Just like Nickelback’s video “Far away”, this video also has several inter-cuts of the band performing ‘Numb’.
