Sai Baba lived from 1854 to 1918 and played a divine role in bringing unity between different religious and social groups in India during a time of cultural and religious turmoil. He had large numbers of Hindu, Muslim, Parsee, Christian, and Sikh devotees who he treated equally. Under his guidance, Hindus and Muslims participated in each other's religious festivals and the caste system became irrelevant. Today, his teachings of humanism, universal brotherhood, love, compassion, and simplicity are increasingly relevant as the world seeks solutions to problems of differentiation. Though his physical body is gone, Sai Baba's spirit and the pull of his soul are still felt by devotees, particularly those who visit his tomb in Shirdi.
