 Alexander Baron (1917-1999) is a British novelist and
short story writer. He is best known for his highly
acclaimed novel about the second World War entitled
“From the City From the Plough”. “The Man He Knew Too
Much” is taken from the collection “The Human Kind”.
SUMMARY
In this story Alexander Baron explains the character of an
ordinary soldier named Quelch. He was sincere and devoted to
his work. At the training center he got the nick name “the
professor”, because of his appearance and aid of knowledge.
He did everything as best as he would with a view to realizing
his ambition. In the training depot, there was a tough soldier
named Corporal had seen action in the French town of
Dunkirk. One day when he taking a class on hand –grenade ,
Quelch displayed his knowledge much to the disapproval of
Turnbull. The corporal asked him to give the lecture and tossed
the grenade to him. That was a turning point to Quelch’s life.
He was selected for the cookhouse works. Even at t remained
the performer. He cookhouse private Quelch is pomposity nor
keep his mouth could neither get over his pomposity nor keep
his mouth shut. There he lectured to him assistants on
subjects like the hygiene and scientific peeling of potatoes and
the necessity to avoid the wasting of vitamin values.
