3. Background to story
● Buttercup has realized she is in love with the farm boy,
Westley. For all the years he has said ‘‘As you wish’’ in
answer to her requests, what he really meant was ‘‘I love
you’’.
● He then has to go away to seek his fortune if they are to
marry, and Buttercup fears she will never see him again.
● To this, Westley says ‘‘This is true love, of course we will
meet again.’’
● This scene is when they say goodbye to each other.

4. Shot and Focus
● This is a medium shot, which shows the two characters,
Westley and Buttercup, in full.
● It uses a deep focus to show both the couple and beautiful
farmland scenery in detail.
● The angle of the camera is at eye level, which is neutral.

5. Sound
● The diegetic sound is the two characters speaking and birds
singing and chirping.
● The non-diegetic sound is the score, written by Mark
Knopfler.
● It is the main love theme of the movie, called ‘Storybook
Love’.
● This is the theme song, sung by Willy deVille at the end of
the film.
