The Pittsburgh Steelers were founded in 1924 by Art Rooney. They struggled in their early decades but changed their name to the Steelers in the 1940s and had their first winning season in 1942. They became highly successful in the 1970s, winning four Super Bowls that decade behind hall of fame players and the "Steel Curtain" defense. After falling off in later decades, they regained championship form in the 2000s under Ben Roethlisberger, winning Super Bowls in 2005 and 2008. The Steelers have endured ups and downs over the years but remain one of the top franchises in the NFL with the most Super Bowl wins.
