The Path of the Goddess: The Sacred Feminine in Ancient Art and Culture

The class will explore the manifestation of the sacred feminine in art, poetry, mythology and other cultural manifestations through the ancient world. Starting with the goddess figurines of the Upper Paleolithic and the continuation of the moon goddess motif into the Neolithic, we will watch her transformation in Mesopotamian and Egypt and through the Classical World, finally exploring her role in the developing Christian world and through the Middle Ages.
