2. Psychology Basis
• The Psychology part that I will be covering with this project will be
from the human development. It has to do with our mental health
and that is Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer’s disease is, as defines by
Google, a progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle
or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the
most common cause of premature senility. Due to this disease, you
are unable to identify anyone you knew before or any memory.
3. The Notebook
• The Notebook is a film released in 2004. It is based off of the novel written
by Nicholas Sparks. In the movie, the whole story is told by an old man
named Noah, the main character. He reads a story to an old woman named
Allie, the second main character. The story is about two young teens who
come from different lifestyle, rich (the girl) and poor (the boy). They end up
falling in love with each other but were separated by the girls parents that
made her move in order to be away from the boy. They end up finding each
other in the future and even marry each other.
• (I tried not to spoil it too much for those who have not watched it yet)
4. Connection
• The main connection about the story and the mental health is that
Noah is telling Allie their own story of how they fell in love. However,
Allie has Dementia (a type of Alzheimer’s) and cannot remember any
of it. Noah and Allie ended up getting married and having children,
even grand-children. Unfortunately because of the disease, she is
unable to recognize Noah, her children and grand-children. At the
end of the movie, Allie seems have a moment of remembrance where
she was able to recognize Noah and knew that the story being read to
her was their own. Sadly this moment does not last very long as she
does end up forgetting who he is. Due to this, Allie has to stay a care
home where Noah frequently visits in hope that one day, she will
remember who he and their children are.
