Section 1 provides a theoretical understanding of cognitive authority in health science contexts through a systematic review of research literature. Section 2 describes four empirical studies among young people to examine perspectives on cognitive authority from formal and leisure environments. The studies utilized interviews, observations, questionnaires, and analysis of social media data to understand learner and trustee viewpoints and how young people experience cognitive authority in free time and online.
