Young Leader
of the Year
CoreNet Global presented its inaugural H. Gordon Wyllie, MCR Young
Leader of the Year Award at its Global Summit in Philadelphia in
October. Former Chairmen Matt Cullen, MCR.h, Rock Ventures, and
Lee Utke, MCR, Whirlpool Corp., presented the award along with CEO
Angela Cain and the Wyllie family, including wife Helen (Sis), son
Stuart Wyllie, daughter Nancy Mueller and granddaughter Laura Wyllie.
The award honored Wyllie’s legacy of mentoring young leaders in the
corporate real estate profession.

Based in Dubai for 10 years, Scott Barras has been with Standard Chartered Bank for more
than five. He has full accountability across 25 countries for 152 full-time real estate professionals
throughout almost 600 properties totaling 3.2 million square feet (297,000 sq. m.).
Among the achievements contributing to his success are the management of relocations and
the optimization of processes, from property portfolios to vendor contracts, as well as the delivery
of real estate projects across the region, such as the Standard Chartered Tower in Dubai, one of the
first genuine build-to-suit corporate office buildings in the Middle East.
As the global chairman of SCB’s Society Engagement Council, he also has driven the property
function’s volunteering agenda worldwide and promoted engagement among property employees
for the bank’s corporate social responsibility program.
Scott holds a BA in history from Liverpool University and an MSc in Surveying from the University
of Reading. He currently is pursuing his MCR.

Dane Larsen is a leader on CBRE’s Microsoft team that delivers portfolio-planning services for
the client in Puget Sound. For the past four years, he has continuously evolved and improved space
planning for the Microsoft Puget Sound portfolio.
This past year, using a Microsoft technology platform for automation and process simplification,
Dane and his team drove significant efficiencies into the annual planning process. What previously
took six months to complete has now been streamlined to a four- to six-week process. The result: a
complete portfolio plan (covering over 13 million square feet [1.2 million sq. m.] of space)
aligning real estate strategy with each Microsoft business group and its product objectives, along
with fluctuating demand factors, to optimize the use of space.
Dane, who holds a Bachelor of Psychology from Seattle University, also has implemented a
competency matrix for his team. This matrix maps out every role within the team, from senior
leadership to entry-level positions, and the core talent competencies needed for each. This gives all
employees visibility to their areas of focus and development in order to grow their careers.

H. Gordon Wyllie, MCR, was a founding member, chairman, and CEO of
NACORE International, a predecessor organization that integrated with the
International Development Research Council (IDRC) to form CoreNet Global
in 2002. He passed away in July 2016. CoreNet Global is proud to name its new
Young Leader of the Year award in honor of this visionary leader.
