This document discusses the importance of customer research when designing Internet of Things (IoT) connected products. It recommends establishing a baseline of customer behavior over 4 months before introducing a new product, then determining how customer behavior changes with the new product. Conducting research in two phases allows companies to understand existing customer needs and habits, and then evaluate how well a new IoT product meets those needs and changes customer behavior.
